Greetings!
Butcher, baker, cook, police officer, cashier, service station manager, plant supervisor, dental assistant, substitute teacher, library specialist, waitress, beautician, bank teller, cafeteria worker, customer service representative, hotel housekeeper, nursing school student, loan officer, childcare provider, iron worker, hospital supply tech, nanny, and medical assistant. What do these occupations have in common? They are only a partial list of jobs held by Habitat for Humanity St. Tammany West Partner Family homeowners.
| | Congratulations to the Owens-Silvan and Jackson-Hoskins families! |
Many people have the misperception that Habitat homeowners do not work and receive a house for free. In fact, Habitat homeowners work at the businesses in our community that we all rely on every day. When we shop at a local grocery, get a haircut, make a deposit at our bank, drop our children off at daycare, eat out at a local restaurant, go to the doctor, and fill our car with fuel, we may be receiving services from a Habitat homeowner. Habitat homeowners need to have an income to be approved for an interest free mortgage and are required like all of us to make their mortgage payment every month. Also, homeowner mortgage payments provides a portion of the funding needed to enable the affiliate to continue building homes and transforming our community.
So spread the word, Habitat for Humanity homeowners are an important part of our community and their work helps to make St. Tammany West the dynamic community that it is.
Thanks for your support,
Jeff St. Romain President/CEO

Building through Art is an educational art program which introduces local third-grade students to the work of Habitat for Humanity St. Tammany West in their community. The students are asked to draw a picture and write two sentences about "What Home Means to Me."
Twenty winning pieces were chosen to be framed and displayed at Gallery Night. Artwork may be purchased by donation at Gallery Night. Proceeds will be split between Habitat for Humanity St. Tammany West and the student artist's school in the form of a contribution to support and develop art in the classroom.

| Spike it for Charity! | |
Students at Southeastern Louisiana University and members of Theta Phi Alpha Sorority are hosting a philanthropic project for the Spring Semester, "Spike it for Charity" on Sunday, March 27, 2011. This year's event will raise donations for Habitat for Humanity St. Tammany West by holding a community Volleyball Tournament open to the community.
They are seeking business donations to benefit Habitat STW's affordable home building program. Businesses and groups are welcome to organize teams to play in the tournament as well. Donors will be recognized at this event, in the Hammond Daily Star newspaper and on tournament T-shirts.
To support the Spike it for Charity volleyball tournament, contact Marcy Rosenbaum at 504-610-5103 or Marcy.Rosenbaum@selu.edu. |
