 JANUARY/2011

Seasons Greetings!

"I read the news today, oh boy." Unfortunately, many of the news articles we read, watch, and listen to are about very troubling issues-domestic violence, child abuse, murder, and the list goes on and on. It is very easy to become very pessimistic about our society and to worry about the future of our country.

College Students At WorkBut there is good news even though you may not hear much about it in the press. Since the first of January, college students from Minnesota, Massachusetts, Vermont, and New York have come down to spend their winter break helping to build Habitat homes in West St. Tammany.  During the next few months 100s of additional college students from all parts of the country will come down to build with us during their winter and spring breaks. These students are giving up their free time and making a sacrifice to make things better one home at a time.  What motivates them to come to West St. Tammany to work on a home, in what we call cold weather, when you could be in south Florida on a beach?

For the answer to that question, come out to a build site and work side by side with these incredible young people.  You'll leave more optimistic about our country's future.  Happy New Year!
