Welcome Kimitra McAllister

Salon Khouri welcomes our newest stylist, Kimitra McAllister. Kimitra joined Salon Khouri March 1st and brings a whole new dimension to our talent set: natural hair. 

Kimitra has been doing hair since she was 18 years of age. Originally from Brooklyn, NY, Kimitra moved to Northern Virginia in 2005. Kimitra's passion is natural hair, weaving, and wig caps.  Kimitra is also a certified Keratin treatment technician.

Kimitra has taken advanced classes at the Graham Webb academy. Her mission is to exceed her clients' expectations through providing impeccable service and quality cutting and styling.

Kimitra hours are currently Sunday: 10 to 4; Tuesday: 11 to 8; Wednesday: 11 to 9; Thursday: 11 to 8.  Also, remember that for every client you refer to Salon Khouri, both you AND the new client receives 10% off their visit!

Jonathan with Nick Arrojo

Jonathan recently attended his second class with Nick Arrojo in New York city.  Nick, from the TLC TV show "What Not To Wear," covered razor cutting techniques in November 2010.  In February 2011, Jonathan returned to New York to take a three day class on bobs: from traditional, to short, to graduated.   

Also, in April, stylists Rebecca Garcia and Kristin Fletcher will be travelling to San Francisco to attend the world renowned Vidal Sassoon education center to take a five day, hands-on cutting course.  We can hardly wait for their return to see what amazing techniques they learned! As a reminder, be sure to prebook your April appointments with Rebecca and Kristin as they will be gone the week of April 17th - April 22nd for the class and will book up early and fast! 

We've been keeping our eye out on hot Spring trends for 2011, and we've seen three emerge as front-runners: tousled waves, sophisticated 70s, and low ponytails/buns.

In the first decade of 2010, it was called "bed head," but for the second decade it seems the look has a more classically romantic designation of "tousled waves."  Whatever you want to call it, we think the look is quite timeless, and perfect for spring and summer.  Easy and relaxed, yet romantic at the same time, tousled waves go wonderfully with spring colors, or an oversized boyfriend sweater with jeans.

Sophisticated 70s is an interesting look and is making some of us hope that bell bottoms will not be making a come back!  Well, if they do, we can at least think that they will be "sophisticated" as is this lovely, do-it-yourself updo.  Simply tie your hair in a low bun, then roll a silk scarf around your hair and tuck.  Voila!  A quick and easy Sophisticated 70s look in less than 10 minutes!

The third look that we've noticed this upcoming season are low buns and ponytails.  With buns, we've seen sleek and elegant -- think JCrew or an evening out.  With low ponytails, we've seen a more tousled, natural look with a loosely fitted band that holds the hair low and loose at the neck.

Many of you know Nonya quite well.  Nonya has been our beloved manager for four years, but recently left Salon Khouri to work as a recruiter at a firm in Reston.  We still aren't quite sure how we will get by without her fantastic smile, witty charm, and amazing style.  Nonya made us promise not to make an announcement until after she left, but if you would like to send her a note, please email it to nmcneil@salonkhouri.com and we will be sure she receives it.  We wish Nonya the best and miss her dearly!
