Next Steps - Focus on Increasing Hospital Participation to Support Area Nursing Schools

A regional participation target of 75% was established in Los Angeles County for RN programs and their clinical service partners to utilize the online clinical placement process.  70% of the area RN schools and 25% of acute care general hospitals were onboard with this first placement cycle.  Participation by more area hospitals to use CCPS as THE nursing clinical placement planning process is a priority to realize maximum efficiencies and support regional nursing education capacity.  Information sessions will continue through the summer with nursing leaders and educators to encourage their participation. Training for new sites and their designated coordinators to learn how to use CCPS will be conducted just prior to the next placement cycle. Classes for Hospitals are scheduled August 6th, 7th, or 20th, and classes for schools on August 21st. Brief refresher sessions and updates will also be available to support existing sites and coordinators.
Grant Funding from UniHealth Now Available To Support Clinical Facility Participation

We are pleased to announce that grant funding is now available for clinical facilities to support regional participation in CCPS this year.  Funding from the UniHealth Foundation will pay for the site licensing fees that are normally charged to each hospital. ($975/year) All hospitals who currently use CCPS and those facilities who begin to use CCPS with this next placement cycle starting in August 2008 will benefit from this grant support.

The value of securing funding related to the nursing shortage initiatives such as CCPS is an important part of the overall partnership effort to assist hospitals with the needed start up resources to assure region wide success.

We are hopeful that grant funding may be extended to support each hospitals annual licensing fees for an additional 2 years with the next grant cycle.

Sites considering participating in the next (August) CCPS clinical placement cycle may contact us with questions, to schedule an information session for your organization, or to register for upcoming classes.  carolyn@cinhc.org  or call 301-714-9242

CCPS Planning Calendar for Spring/Summer 2009 Placements

The LANRC Advisory Board has established these dates for the next regional clinical placement planning cycle. Please mark your calendars!

August 11 - August 22
Hospitals review, confirm and extend availability through December 31, 2009. We understand some hospitals will need to modify future availability if census and building plans change.  These changes can be done as needed throughout the year.

August 25 - September  12
Schools submit requests for all courses that start January 2009 through the end of the Spring or Summer terms (courses usually ending by/before August 2009).

September 15 - September 26
Hospitals review requests and make placement decisions. Hospitals are encouraged to accept long-standing/historic placements first and to decline proposals they know they cannot accommodate as quickly as possible as a courtesy to schools.

Meet the LANRC Advisory Board!

The LANRC Advisory Board was formed in November 2007 to represent the local nursing education community and provide regional leadership in guiding the development and implementation of the LANRC services.  Advisory Board Members are engaged in facilitating service and academic partnerships and many are also CCPS Coordinators at their sites.  A special thank you to these nursing leaders for their vision, professional commitment, and support in launching CCPS this year!
