Five University of Newcastle educators were recently recognised for innovative approaches to creating a better learning environment for students. The professors received Citations for Contributions to Student Learning from the Australian Government's Awards for University Teaching. RMIT University

 

Three RMIT Furniture Design students recently won the Australian Furniture of the Year Student Design Award for Victoria and Tasmania. Inspired by the shape of a clam shell, the Clam Chair opens and closes with the inside padded with 19 small cushions. The award was presented at Australasia's largest furniture event, the annual Furnitex trade fair. Click here for more on this innovative project.

Melbourne to Offer Free Online Courses
7 courses initially available through Coursera

Example Image - 120 x 85 pixelsThe University of Melbourne is the first Australian university to join Coursera, a provider of free online college courses. Students with Internet access can sign up for one of seven courses led by university faculty members. Each course lasts for 6 weeks, in subjects including climate change, exercise physiology and macroeconomics. Click here to sign up for a course.
Bionic Eye Project
Australian cutting-edge research to help the blind

Swinburne Puts You in the Pilot's Seat
Advanced flight simulators will help make flying safer

Swinburne University of Technology's Aviation Simulation Laboratory features an airplane flight simulator and Australia's only helicopter simulator. Researchers hope to learn more about how fatigue, inexperience and adverse weather impact pilot behaviour. See video of the simulators in action.

Australian International Education Conference (AIEC) 2012, 2-5 October, Melbourne Convention and Education Centre

AIEC 2012 will explore the role international education, training and research will play in the 21st century.
