New Student Visa English Language Requirements
  

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship will soon be accepting results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the Pearson Test of English Academic (Pearson) and the Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) in addition to the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). This measure is expected to take effect later this year.

The Group of Eight has launched a new search engine, Australia's Knowledge Gateway, which highlights the activities of Australian researchers. This database is a useful tool to find individuals and institutions with strengths in particular research disciplines. Click here to start searching.

Do your students have visa questions? Direct them to the Information Service for Australian Visas (ISAV) at +1 905 280 1437. The ISAV is open weekdays from 10am to 5pm EST. The Department of Immigration website, www.immi.gov.au, is another helpful visa resource.

Forces Shaping Institutional Decisions on Internationalisation:
Wednesday 1 June 8:00am - 9:15am
Betty Leask from the University of South Australia will present on the ways in which institutional strategies are affected by the culture and structure of their institution, nation, or region. The panel also looks at the impact of internal and external forces and contexts on internationalization of higher education.

 

Work, Internship, and Volunteer Abroad: Wednesday 1 June 12:45pm - 2:15pm
Rebekah Gilchrist, Natalia Piedrahita, Diana Pilling of Australian Internships will be representing at this Poster Fair about the changing landscape of education abroad which includes increased student interest in experiences involving global learning through work, internships, and volunteering abroad.

Mary Hurwood of the Queensland University of Technology will be one of the representatives, highlighting important findings, perspectives and academic enquiries to stimulate collaboration and provide tangible, professional resources and educational understanding for attendees.

Jennie Lang, Pro-Vice-Chancellor International of the University of New South Wales will co-present with several other countries on the pros and cons of consortia and explore opportunities for improved collaboration.


Attracting Fresh Talent: Immigration Policies and the International Student: Friday 3 June 3 3:30pm - 4:30pm
Mark Darby, Education Counsellor at the Embassy of Australia, will present on Australia's policies on graduate employment that aim to enhance the country's labour force but have recently acted to decouple international education and immigration. Share views on this controversial theme.
