Our Conversations With Sean and Kim
Sean and Kim
What upgrades did you add? We built a 2-story, 4 bedroom, 4 1/2 bath home with 9 foot ceilings, crown mold throughout, 7 inch baseboards, extensive trim package, Swarovski crystal chandeliers in the dining room and wet bar, tray ceilings in the master, oversize shower and a claw foot tub. Our home has cherry cabinets with 4 plank redwood floors, a two way stone fireplace and a home theatre.

What was your reason for building?  We built three homes before, but then we decided to hold off because we weren't sure we could afford what we wanted. We decided we would rather wait and get what we wanted at the right price and UBuildIt made that possible. It was fun. We liked to be involved in making important decisions on our house.

Why did you choose UBuildIt?
We had a limited budget when we built our other homes so we didn't get all we wanted. With the UBuildIt discounts we could afford a larger floor plan and all the finishing packages that we wanted. We even included several upgrades we never would have added otherwise. And UBuildIt made sure everything got done like we wanted.

Layout and Foundation Thompson foundation1
We're On The Way Up!
The foundation is a full poured concrete finished basement that opens out to the rear of this fantastic wooded lot! The walk out area has a large exposed aggregate concrete patio for some fresh air after spending a few hours watching a good movie in the basement "Theatre Room".

"The Subfloor Goes On!
View from the rear of the house as the framers finishes the rear walkout wall of the basement and begins the subfloor on the first floor of the house. We used engineered truss joists to take advantage of maximum spans in the basement, which means reduced columns and less interference with finished areas.

Roofing thompson framing2
"Roofing Installation Underway!"
This 40 year architectual shingle makes a nice roof that will last longer than most people will own their home. The valleys are flashed with copper and all the step flashing is also done in copper to accent the upscale nature of this home.

Masonry Exteriorframing kim
"Project Manager Kim Inspecting the Brick Start"
The Thompsons used over 45,000 brick in their dream home. It is a full masonry three story brick veneer exterior. The exterior building envelope is wrapped in Tyvec house wrap and sealed for maximum efficiency. The weep holes and brick flashing allow the moisture between the brick and the building envelope to properly dissipate.

More Conversations With Sean and Kim

What was the hardest part about building?  Working with subcontractors would have been the hardest, but thankfully UBuildIt handled that part for us really well. When we built our other home getting good subcontractors and getting them to show up when promised is always a challenge. I think our UBuildIt representative, Wayne, was even more hands on than some custom builders we have dealt with. He helped us personally control and make decisions about our home.

What was the best part of building?
We are by no means professional builders, but our UBuildIt representative gave us an education and guidance through the building process. We even enjoyed doing some of the work ourselves.

How much time did you spend on the project?   We spent anything from maybe an hour to a couple of hours a day, but we could put in as much or as little time as we wanted.

Any other comments?
We have already recommended UBuildIt to friends. We have had a great experience, and we saved a ton of money!

Master Bedroomthompson master
"The Interior Finishes Really Make The House"
This large master bedroom has a warm fireplace with old country charm. The bedroom features an ornate trey ceiling and is separated from the sitting area with a half wall and gothic columns. The spacious master bath has a claw foot tub, walk-in glass block shower, his and hers vanities and a huge master closet.

Greatroom/Rear DeckThompson family room
"Let Their Be Light!"
The Thompson's dream home makes maximum usage of their wonderful wooded views. Floor to ceiling windows abound throughout the house. This greatroom is centered with a solid stone wood burning fireplace that can be enjoyed from the greatroom in the winter, and opens onto the rear elevated deck for warmth on the nice spring and fall evenings.
