Conversations with Rick and Becky
What upgrades did you add?
For upgrades we were able to use granite in all of the full bathrooms, in floor heat in the kitchen and master bathroom and closet systems for all of the closets.

What was your reason for building?
We wanted to build where there was not a house right next door and to have a nice wooded lot.

Why did you choose UBuildIt?
We used UBuildit to help control our cost, to be able to pick good contractors and to work one on one with the contractors.

What was the hardest part about building? Time management was our hardest part and we had quite a few rainy days that delayed us.
Foundation

"Framing The Main House!"
This home was built on a very steep sloping lot. The concrete floor that you see is actually the basement floor at the bottom of the foundation walls. Rick and Becky selected a split face veneer for the lower exposed wall.
Framing

"Rick and Becky Supervising the Framing!"
The first floor of this home has a large master suite with a trey ceiling, 2 large walk-in closets, whirlpool, tiled shower, living room with fireplace and side by side built-ins, study off the main foyer, breakfast room, kitchen, pantry, 1/2 guest bath, laundry room, storage room and 2 car garage and a full unfinished basement. The second floor features 2 bedrooms with walk-in closets and 2 full baths.
Rear View of House
"Yes It Will Have Quite The View From The Great Room Deck!"
The rear of the home opens to a wonderful view of the Kentucky River below. The wooded lot lends a wonderful secuded setting that the Hines were looking for.

Subject: Hard To Put A Price On The Satisfaction That Comes From Building

I don't know if it's possible to close your eyes and imagine something at the same time you're reading an email but do your best to try:

Imagine how you're going to feel turning the key to walk into your completed home for the first time after officially closing on it. The home transforms from a place to live to a place that lives and breathes with your family-after all, it is YOUR creation. You dreamed it. You designed it. You planned it. You chose the materials and contractors. Who knows, maybe you even picked up a hammer or paint brush or rolled in some carpet-although you certainly don't have to provide the manual labor if you don't want to!

Chances are you'll live in this home -YOUR HOME-much longer than your neighbors who picked their homes off the shelf like a pair of shoes or a toaster. As the years roll on, YOUR home will feel more like an old friend than an assembly of nails and drywall. Kids will grow up and move on. Relatives will visit for the holidays. Friends will create memories that won't fade. And the constant, all the while, will be the home that you built yourself.

Sound a little melodramatic? Not so, say the thousands of families that we've helped build in the last decade plus. They rave about the feeling of a home they built versus a home they bought. To understand why, just close your eyes and dream a little. Imagine holding the blueprints and watching as the frame goes up, then the walls, the roof, and the paint, with you making the important decisions all along the way. If you're excited about that at all, then building your own home is the right move for you.

More Conversations With Rick and Becky

What was the best part of building?   My best part of the building process was the shopping for cabinets, tile, countertops and lighting fixtures.

How much time did you spend on the project?   At first my husband was down at the house a couple times a week, but near the end at least 4-5 hours a day.

Any other comments?  I would recommend UBuildIt to any friend or co-worker who is thinking about building a house. Working with Don and Wayne was a pleasure and we could always count on them if a problem arose.

Thanks,

Becky Hines
