What upgrades did you add?
Geothermal heat, hardwood floors throughout, precast Superior Walls in the basement, Energy Star Certified Home and crown molding throughout.
What was your reason for building? We wanted to build out own home.
Why did you choose UBuildIt?
We didn't have the budget to buy the home we really wanted, so we decided to do it ourselves, with the help of UBuildIt. We ended up getting exactly what we wanted, and even included several upgrades we never would have added otherwise.
What was the hardest part about building? Getting good subcontractors and getting them to show up when promised is always hard, and we did have a few problems. Luckily we had UBuildIt to fall back on, and they helped us when needed.

| The Pecks foundation was custom built in a "controlled" environment at Superior Walls
factory. The walls were shipped on site and erected with a crane in about 8 hours. This system reduces building time, mold and mildew potential and conserves energy. The walls are made with a 5,000 PSI moisture resistant concrete mix (with rebar) that eliminates additional damproofing. 20% of your home's heat loss can occur though the basement walls, so that's why Superior Walls feature a continuous layer of insulation bonded directly to the concrete. They have wood nailers build into the concrete studs so you can add additional insulation and easily finish out the basement. |

You can see the insulation board and concete studs on the foundation walls in the background. The Superior Wall system eliminates the need for concrete footings and uses a compacted crushed stone base with perimeter drain instead. This directs water away from your foundation to keep your home warm and dry. It is a proven system with over 70,000 installations across the US. Bob was especially interested in the energy efficiency of this basement wall system. |

| Angie is an executive with LexMark here in Lexington and is very busy with her significant job responsibilities. In addition her job, and helping to raise their two beautiful children... she also managed the building of her dream home.

What was the best part of building? We enjoyed being involved every step of the way including doing some of the work ourselves. My dad is very handy and helped install the hardwood floors, hang doors and install trim. The whole family pitched in to paint the interior walls and complete the exterior landscaping.
How much time did you spend on the project? Bob frequently travels with his job, so I managed most of project myself. Depending on the phase of the project, I spent 1 to 2 hours a day - except of course whe we were actually doing some of the work.
