"What sets worlds in motion is the interplay of differences, their attractions and repulsions"

`Octavio Paz`

Greetings!,

Preparations for the 27th International Festival of Raleigh are underway, and over 50 dedicated volunteers and a thousand more from our ethnic communities are busy working on planning and artistic production.

Rankin Art 2012
International Festival of Raleigh 2012 poster art by Bob Rankin

One of our treasured long-time contributors is Raleigh artist, Bob Rankin.  Bob donates his considerable talent to the festival's poster art each year, and as you can see, he didn't disappoint again this year.

The theme for the 2012 International Festival is "A Defining Moment in History", and our ethnic communities

will be sharing their culture and traditions as they tell about pivotal events in their individual histories. The festival poster depicts buildings that represent important events or periods around the world. The buildings are portrayed here as birdhouses, and the little birds have on hats as worn by the peoples from those regions.

Thanks Bob, and thanks to all our fantastic volunteers for their work in making the 27th International Festival the best ever!! Here at International Focus birds of MANY feathers flock together!

I hope you and yours have a wonderful summer. Please be sure to enjoy the resources and event listings in this issue of International Focus News!

Very best wishes,

Clodagh Bastian

Executive Director
