International Groups of the Triangle

The Nippon Club of the Triangle was founded in 1990 to promote Japanese-American cultural exchange. The group's mission is to serve the community by conducting local events and provide practical information to Japanese living in the Triangle area.

Regular club events include an annual New Year Celebration, Bon-Odori dance performances, the International Festival of Raleigh, and Mochi (rice cake) Pounding Ceremonies,

The 200-member organization also has several fan clubs under their umbrella, including Triangle Taiko, a Japanese drumming group, Triangle Special Taiko, a drumming group for handicapped players, Triangle Chanoyu, a Japanese tea ceremony group, and Mochitsuki Club, a mochi pounding group.

Nippon Club events are very popular in the community. Last July's Bon-Odori event gathered more than 900 Japanese and American participants at the NC Japan Center, and Triangle Taiko performed on 26 stages in 2010. Make sure to stop by this weekend to experience their Japanese New Year Celebration and connect with Nippon Club participants and supporters.
