Welcome to the ArtLinks e-Newsletter A regular Art News and Information Bulletin from the participating ArtLinks Partner Counties: Co Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford, Wexford & Wicklow
Happy New Year Everyone,
I have a lot of positive news to share for ArtLinks members and friends. In the week before Christmas, ArtLinks reached a milestone and received an award nomination on the same day!! ArtLinks has now 1034 members and the website has been short-listed for a 2009 e-government Award! ArtLinks is now officially the largest, free Arts Directory in the south east. It's great to reflect on how far ArtLinks has
come, the website itself and the community, and to acknowledge those
who have helped along the way.
ArtLinks is also a growing Arts Development Resource. The ArtLinks Arts Officers and new partners have been designing the ArtLinks programme for 2009. I'm happy to say the 2009 programme will be very comprehensive, with many new courses, bursaries and other opportunities. There have been some adjustments to different areas, but overall the programme is offering more in 2009, than in 2008!
Firstly, ArtLinks in 2009 is offering a suite of Art Bursaries totalling €32, 500: Each
of the ArtLinks County Arts Offices will be offering 2 new Music Bursaries for
each county in association with Music Network and a Drama Bursary for the
Drama League of Ireland's Summer School. The ArtLinks Bursary is also available for each county, but it has been reduced to €5,000. All application forms are available to download from the Bursary page of the ArtLinks website now.
ArtLinks will also be offering a range of courses in April/May. Provisionally the courses will include: Writing your Artists CV & Statement, Peer Critique for Photography, Earning Opportunities for Visual Artists (these courses to be held in association with Visual Artists Ireland (VAI)), 'Making a Business for your Art (Visual Artists), Intermediate Blogging for the Arts, and Portfolio template websites. Another new association with the Waterford Healing Arts Trust, will bring two new courses, one for musicians and one for visual artists, who are working in participatory arts and health settings. ArtLinks has delivered a follow-up Theatre Lighting course this month and is researching another drama course. ArtLinks also hopes to offer courses and opportunities for film in association with Filmbase later in the year.
The pilot ArtLinks Mentoring sessions for visual artists, held last Nov/Dec, were highly valued by those who participated. We are also planning a follow-up session and further mentoring later in the year.
In the future the strength of the arts resource network that is ArtLinks, will be due to you, it's members. Its amazing to me personally to see the community grow but I see far greater learning opportunities still ahead if we network and share more. The ArtLinks website has been built with this in mind. For e.g. do make use of the forum to share ideas, find first-hand local information; a lot of people are looking but not yet participating. John (our ArtLinks intern and a former film editor) is setting a challenge to all film-makers in the online Forum, a fun 10 second initiative about film-making but a great idea to allow you all to know the film-makers in the region). So load up your profile picture and join the conversation - and if anything Obama's election in America has inspired us about what the power of networking, both on and offline, can achieve.
Creators from all fields will be challenged in these changing times but it is often the Arts that will sustain and inspire. So remember to access the inspiration and resources for your art practice from ArtLinks, and share your knowledge as well. Oh, that's the last thing I wanted to mention, the ArtLinks.ie Archive is now available, you can now see past course notes and slideshow presentations (and you can add your ideas to the Archive as well).
Best wishes to you all for the coming year,

Cathy Fitzgerald ArtLinks Director and Member

Have your changed your address or email? Do update your ArtLinks page details as this where brochures and other ArtLinks information are sent and perhaps freshen up your page with a new image. We would also encourage you to upload your own photo (avatar) so people get to know you, it's particularly useful if you use the Forum.
It's also a good time to check whether your page is showing out of date information on past courses, events or exhibitions. Remember, the media, arts officers, mentors and other ArtLinks members can view your page - you want to show your work off as professionally as you can.
And do add your courses, events and notices.

ArtLinks Archive Launched!
Visit the Archive here
From the very beginning of the ArtLinks Programme, ArtLinks had a vision of building an online archive on the very valuable ArtLinks Courses delivered in the region and share the legacy of this knowledge to all.
The aim was to create the ArtLinks Archive - a place to share course notes across the wider ArtLinks community. It's innovative as it is modelled on the Wikipedia & Creative commons licence model (course material is licensed for educational, not commercial use). This means that both ArtLinks and ArtLinks members can contribute, as it not only the course tutors who have have a wealth of knowledge to share, but the participants as well.
We now have slide-show presentations and links to other informaton on the following topics (more will be loaded in time) and the best thing is you can now participate and add to the Archive when you login.
Note: The ArtLinks Archive will never replace the real experience of the ArtLinks Courses & Workshops; the tutors knowledge or the shared value of networking with other members. We encourage all members to attend courses when they can as an important investment in their creative practices.
