The ArtLinks e-Newsletter is sent to several 1000 creative practitioners and those interested in the Arts each month.
10 Nov 08
Welcome to the ArtLinks e-Newsletter A regular Art News and Information Bulletin from the participating ArtLinks Partner Counties: Co Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford, Wexford & Wicklow
Hi everyone,
Lots of news for you this month.
ArtLinks warmly welcomes Carissa Farrell as Director of Visual - Centre for Contemporary Art & George Bernard Shaw
Theatre in Carlow and also congratulations to theCarlow African Film Festivalfor winning the Co. Carlow Chamber Business Award ˜Winner of Excellence in Embracing Diversity" and then being nominated for the National Award. See all Co. Carlow's art news on the new Arts Office pages here
I was also down in Co. Waterford last month, attending our course in Dungarvan for amatuer drama in which nearly 30 people representing different local groups attended. I also had the opportunity to visit Mary Grehan for a sneak preview of the Waterford Regional Hospital's National Healing Arts Trust Building, which will be officially opened in 2009 and which no doubt will be a centre of excellence for those arts practitioners working in health settings.
We also worked with some of our new partners this month, the Drama League of Ireland and ArtLinks are in negotiation with Practice.ie on courses for arts practitioners who work with children and young people. Do join practice.ie (also check that you have selected this category on your Art Links Profile page in case Arts officers are searching for people to invite). Practice.ie have upcoming courses in other areas soon, please see the News page. We have also formed a partnership with Visual Artists Ireland (VAI) and are investigating VAI courses for the new year
Behind the scenes since August, I have been working with with our web developer and Artlinks member, Fergal O'Hanlon. Some of you may have noticed significant new features on the ArtLinks website; I'll mention more details below but Fergal dealt with long lists of new ideas, made other areas clearer and provided much more interactivity to the site. So a big thanks to Fergal who seems to have endless patience, to Ken McGuire, our Kilkenny ArtLinks member and AtLinks Blogger tutor/Podcamp organiser who has given me advice on how to improve the networking and social aspects of site and also to Krishna De for her support in highlighting how creative communities can best engage with the Internet.
I have some more good news in that I have been joined by John Loftus, a student from the new WIT MA in Arts, Culture & Heritage Management degree. John joins me one day a week for a work experience placement and comes to ArtLinks from the film industry; he's recently been 1st asst. editor on the Irish Film 'The Film with Me in it' so its no surprise he's ace at helping me on the website and has natural management skills. He'll also be helping a team of ArtLinks members who are about to look at strategies in keeping the ArtLinks profile high.
Have fun with the new features on the website; many members are already using the website to great effect to list their courses, skills, venues, programmes, events or to find people for upcoming theatre productions or just get advice from other members on courses and training. As always, feedback is always welcome!

ArtLinks Members Website - New Features announced!
The
main aim in these new website developments are to further strengthen ArtLinks aim in
'providing means to create a culture of self-sufficiency and
collaboration' between ArtLinks members.
 One of the more subtle
but probably more important feature for members in this economic
climate is the new ArtLinks Skills Shop on the homepage; if you list
your creative skills when you login, people can search for them easily now by entering
key words. I urge all members to login, Edit their Profile and list their skills now.
Do you
want people to know where you are? There is now an optional Google map feature if you want people to find your studio, venue, meeting, exhibition or festival
and the Forum has been brought to the home page, so do add your members image (avatar) so we can all get to know each other better. Members can also list themselves under various artforms, as many who work creatively, work across many disciplines.
ArtLinks Members can now link to other sites where their work may be hosted and network with others: Flickr
(image online service for visual artists), you tube (filmmakers), myspace (musicians) etc
I think from the
many positive comments we get about the website, many ArtLinks Members are finding it an excellent regional Arts resource and its starting to provide a growing and important sense of community. It is also highlighting a diverse range of creativity and activities, so do make the most of it.
Read about all the new features here, and login to update and make use of these features now! Here are links to members who are using many of the new features Ross Costigan Ken McGuire Nicola Brown
Future: ArtLinks hopes to shortly create a small pamphlet for all members to help make the best use of site, to better market your work/skills and facilitate your Arts networking

Update: ArtLinks Drama / Theatre Courses, ...
We've had a great turnout at the first ArtLinks Drama/Theatre courses.
Our thanks to the Dara Carolan, Drama League of Ireland, Kilkenny's Barnstorm Theatre Company for the use of their venue and ArtLinks member, director Tony McCleane-Fay in helping to deliver these courses.
We had our last course on Pro Am Theatre Skills on Fri Nov 7, with Tony. He delivered this course some weeks ago in Dungarvan, Co. Waterford and nearly 30 people, representing many local amateur groups attended. Due to the level of interest shown, ArtLinks is hoping to organise another 2 workshops with Tony; an Acting workshop and one on theatre lighting for the new year.
These were some of the first professional FIlm/Drama/ Theatre courses and you can further assist the development of Film Drama/Theatre in the region by encouraging others to register with ArtLinks. Please feel free to forward this email to theatre groups and individuals working in these areas.
Please also register Drama Groups on ArtLinks and encourage Drama group members to register individually, to increase the profile of both the groups amd members with specific skills across the South East. |

The ArtLinks Directory now lists over 960+ members, groups & festivals! But have you checked your profile page recently?
The ArtLinks Directory is now the largest Arts Directory in the South East. It has begun to highlight the many amatuers and professionals that are involved in the creative sector, but are you listed?
This e-newsletter is sent to all those currently on the 5 Arts Offices Databases. Therefore receiving this e-newsletter does not necessarily mean that you are a registered ArtLinks member.
To check you/your group are Registered: goto the homepage of ArtLinks.ie, and go to ///Find Artists/Group and look through the drop- down menu to find your name. If your name is not there, you are NOT an ArtLinks member. However, Registration is easy, click the Register button above on the homepage (this also creates your Profile Page).
For those that are registered, please check your details. Many people register and leave their Profile pages blank - a real missed opportunity to promote and market your work and skills. I know many galleries and radio stations are using ArtLinks to find interesting creative work/projects, and just as important, increasing numbers of members are networking with others who share similar interests or using it to find people with creative skills with whom they can collaborate.
Please email info@artlinks.ie now if you have forgotton your login details to update your page and keep the Directory useful for all. Remember, its free to register and promote your creative activities.
