Welcome to the ArtLinks e-Newsletter A regular Art News and Information Bulletin from the participating ArtLinks Partner Counties: Co Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford, Wexford & Wicklow
Hi everyone,
First I want to tell you about the new ArtLinks professional development Film course that happened last weekend. It was a great day with participants turning up in Tinahely all the way from Waterford and Cork! Speakers from Filmbase, Fastnet and Kirby Films, as well as John McDonnell, the Oscar winning producer, gave very informa tive talks and shared their first hand experiences about working in the film industry. We all stayed late to watch John's films and I've had emails this week saying how impressed people were with the day and some have offered more information which I will add to the Archive area (this area of the website is under development but in future participants and panelists will be able to add further information to share with others). Alan Fitzpatrick of Filmbase also said that the new issue of Film Ireland released this week, which is all about Making Movies, would be of particular interest to our members. You might want to pick up a copy and perhaps consider joining Filmbase for more courses and training.
After the film course I was then lucky enough to attend the young Wicklow Film Bursary recipients film screening which was part of the 2008 Wicklow Wicked Film Festival. John McDonnell was very impressed with the quality of the work, so even though it is a new award the standard is already very high.
Other news is that the Wicklow Arts Office will be launching its new Wicklow County Arts Strategy for 2008-2012 on 22 Sept at Rathnew. You can apply for an invitation to the event by calling the Wicklow Arts office or emailing was@wicklowcoco.ie.
Knowing about your County Arts Strategy is important to understand how the County is prioritising its resources, new devleopments they are initiating and how you might benefit from this. You can obtain County Arts Strategy documents from all Arts Offices or download them from their websites. Future Courses: There are more details below of new ArtLinks courses in Drama and Theatre that will be run later in October/November. All film, drama & theatre practitioners, please assist the development of drama / theatre in the region by forwarding this email to other individuals and groups who may not have registered with ArtLinks yet.
At this time of year, a lot of creative courses are announced, again I've listed some below. Please see the ArtLinks Noticeboard and News Calendar for courses that ArtLinks members and Arts Offices are running. And if you haven't listed your course, workshops or events, don't forget to post them on the ArtLinks site now.
Best wishes,

 Cathy Fitzgerald ArtLinks Director

ArtLinks and Podcamp 27 Sept Kilkenny
Anyone in the arts today may be aware that the Internet is radically changing how audiences access art and creative people. Poets are podcasting (reciting poetry for Internet audiences), sculptors are creating visual 'blog' diaries, writers and artists are self publishing books and catalogues with Internet print on demand sites, film-makers and musicians share work on youtube and myspace... There are valuable opportunities for creative people to explore these technologies to promote their work and connect with peers. Want to find out more, attend the Free Podcamp!
Podcamp is an informal, information sharing day for people interested in finding out more about Blogs, podcasting, social networking etc and we are lucky enough to have the event in the ArtLinks region. There will be a mix of international and local speakers, of all levels. Last year, blog award winner, 'Grannymar', a grandparent who blogs and podcasts gave a very frank account how social media has opened up a whole new world for her.
Rural felt artist, Nicola Brown, is an ArtLinks member who has volunteered to speak about how she recently starting blogging (she has had over 2000 visit to her new site that she set up after the first ArtLinks Blogging course) and I will also present how, at times, through my own practice, I am bringing this knowledge to the ArtLinks community. I will also be talking about new developments for the ArtLinks website - there will be more emphasis on increasing networking on the site and creating interactive wiki info exchange area in the archive area to allow members & tutors to add information to the ArtLinks courses we have held. If you use social media to promote your work, you will also find that ArtLinks will highlight this too.
Feel free to register to attend or give a talk (it's all very informal) at PodcampIreland.com
I know I put this in the last e-news but since Podcamp is happening soon and I am getting more enquiries about blogging, podcasting you can listen to the blogtalk radio interview I had with Krishna De, one of Ireland's leading Social Media strategists, who along with Ken McGuire and others, organised the first Podcamp last year. I talk about what I've learnt in this area for the ArtLinks community - you can listen the Podcast interview here (20Mb).There have been more interviews since. |
