Welcome to the ArtLinks e-Newsletter A regular Art News and Information Bulletin from the participating ArtLinks Partner Counties: Co Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford, Wexford & Wicklow
Hi everyone,
First news for this month is the Wicklow Arts Office, will be running a professional development Film course for all ArtLinks members alongside the 2008 Wicklow Wicked Film Festival. Please see details below, places are limited so you are advised to book early.
We also have some preliminary details of new courses in Drama and Theatre that will be run later in Oct. All film, drama & theatre practitioners, please assist the development of drama / theatre in the region by forward this email to other individuals and groups who may not have registered with ArtLinks yet.
Notes on Upcoming Events: the Kilkenny Arts Festival is opening this Fri, so I would encourage all involved in events/exhibition/gigs and fringe events to add their notice to the ArtLinks Events calendar (we have a new painting exhibition here in the Kilkenny Arts Office for the Festival too). This weekend Sculpture at Kells will open, the new Dysart Music Festival is still going ahead with revised format in Kilkenny City and in Wexford, a final reminder that there is an exciting line-up of music, craft and art in the woods at the 2nd Irish Green Gathering at Woodbrook House in Wexford. On the following weekend there is a brand new Dance event happening in Enniscorthy, the new Street Dance Rythm Fest and a new Music festival, Solas, happening in the grounds of Huntingdon Castle, Carlow. In Waterford I was also delighted to hear about the new Lismore Photographic Studio & Gallery that will be opening in the Autumn.
Take part, visit and enjoy all the summer art & festivals,

 Cathy Fitzgerald ArtLinks Director

ArtLinks Bursary Update! Recent news from 2 of the ArtLinks Bursary recipients
Joe Cleere who received the 2008 Bursary Award for Music, for Co. Carlow, will be releasing his first single 'Queue' on Sept 13 from his new album, with a free gig in Radio City in Dublin on the same day. Joe will be giving away 10,000 CD's but this doesn't help with chart ratings. If you want to support Joe's chart ratings text 1378 to 57501.
Maggie Gallagher who received the 2008 award for Theatre, for Co. Wicklow, will be doing an experimental theatre performance Savage/Love, with a 'working audience' on Sun 10 Aug at the Brooklodge & Well Spa. Art Blogging Update Ken McGuire who ran the first ArtLinks Blogging for the Arts Course in May has been keeping an eye on the new art bloggers that attended.
Our star ArtLinks blogger to date would have to be Nicola Brown, a new felt artist living in rural Carlow, who had over 1900+ visits to her new blog last month! See her and the other new art bloggers on Ken's blogging tips site here and do let me know if you are also blogging about your creative endeavours.
Blogging is not just fun; these art blog's have resulted in feedback, new contacts, information sharing and
even new commissions for these individuals.
You'll see that Ken has set a challenge to all new bloggers for a 'postaday' for August and has invited all bloggers and those interested in social networking to Podcamp 2, the free Unconference on Social Media which is happening here in Kilkenny on Sat 27 Sept.
Anyone in the arts today may be aware that the Internet is radically changing how audiences access art and creative people. Podcamp is an informal, information sharing day for people interested in finding out more about blogs, podcasting, social networking etc and we are lucky enough to have the event in the ArtLinks region. Nicola Brown has volunteered to speak about how she starting blogging and I will also present how, firstly through my own practice, I am bringing this knowledge to the ArtLinks community. You can register to attend at PodcampIreland.com
I was also interviewed recently by Krishna De, one of Ireland's leading Social Media strategists, who along with Ken and others, organised the first Podcamp last year. I talk about what I've learnt in this area for the ArtLinks community - you can listen the Podcast interview here (20Mb). |
