The ArtLinks e-Newsletter is sent to several 1000 creative practitioners and those interested in the Arts each month.

Welcome to the ArtLinks e-Newsletter A regular Art News and Information Bulletin from the participating ArtLinks Partner Counties: Co Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford, Wexford & Wicklow
Hi everyone,
It's been a busy month sorting through all your feedback on the recent ArtLinks Business Courses. Glad to see that so many of you have found them so useful and that you have been keen to tell others to take part. Some information from these courses is available on our Archives Page and we have a comment from our Business-Art Mentor, Marian MacDonald below.
ArtLinks is currently preparing new courses: in August, there will be Film courses for ArtLinks members in association with the Wicklow Film Festival; in the Autumn there will be new courses in Drama and Theatre. All film, drama & theatre practitioners, please encourage others working in these areas to register with ArtLinks. (Just a note, Dungarvan has a new theatre, Dungarvan Town Hall Theatre, and the Erie Playhouse Group from Pennsylvania America are coming to perform there for three
nights Aug 10th, 11th, 12th)
ArtLinks is also happy to announce as part of its follow up from its Professional Development Courses, that it will be piloting its first ArtLinks Mentoring opportunity, in November 2008. After considerable research, ArtLinks in this initial phase will be nominating 6 visual artists from each county to take part in its first ArtLinks Advice Days. Each artist will be offered a valuable one-to-one critique & advice session about their work by a panel of leading Visual Artists. ArtLinks will offer Advice Days to other art forms in turn.
ArtLinks Mentoring, of which the initial Advice Days are the first mentoring opportunity to be designed, is a Key Strand of the ArtLinks Programme.
- Access to locally available ArtLinks Professional Development Courses,
- more funds to highlight and support emerging artists with the development of the five Annual €8000 ArtLinks Bursaries
- and the new ArtLinks Art Resource & Directory Website, were identified as key points for developing and supporting creative people's work in the region, by the majority of the creative community who participated in the initial Exchange Day in May 2006.
By offering such a comprehensive artist-led programme, ArtLinks is already highly regarded both in the five counties and beyond, however the development of the programme will grow with your continued participation and ideas.
Just to finish with a few upcoming events: ArtLinks wishes the Blackstairs Opera 08 Festival and their new Proms and Prams Family Picnic, Opera Day & Traditional Music at Borris House (see links on right, Co. Carlow every success this weekend - I hear the weather is set to change at last and can think of no better way than to enjoy the arts, than out of doors. Another outside event is the new 'Art in the Open 2008' Plein Air Painting Event for Wexford town that is open to all Artists and another upcoming event that many musicians and visual artists will be taking part in soon will be the 2nd Irish Green Gathering at Woodbrook House in Wexford. This week I was also delighted to attend the launch of the Kilkenny Arts Festival and to hear about its exciting August programme. There is also a new gallery in Castlecomer, Kilkenny, the Arthro Gallery. And finally a congratulations to all the ArtLinks members who were selected for the Mermaid Greenstar Open Exhibition, applications of which were open to ArtLinks members for the first time. Lastly, for all you film buffs, Ireland's first digital cinema, including 3-D digital facilities, which will
be unveiled by Omniplex Cinemas in Wexford this Friday, 4th July.

Happy creating everyone,

 Cathy Fitzgerald ArtLinks Director

Business Mentoring for the Arts - An Update
Our recent first series of one-to-one Business Mentoring sessions for Artists with Marian was very popular.
In a recent conversation I had with Marian, she commented that all artists and organisations need ongoing business advice and she encourages everyone, particularly those living in rural areas to register with their local county Enterprise boards. They offer ongoing, and in many cases free business courses and many have visiting guest speakers on all aspects of skills needed to give your work a competitive edge.
I can say personally, that I'm registered for email notices with the Carlow Business women's network that is run through the Carlow Enterprise board and while not every course was relevant to working as an artist, many were, in fact, this is where I met Marian. I have now listed all the Enterprise Boards details listed on the ArtLinks Links page.

Story-tellers wanted! I've been in touch with one of the presenters of Podcamp and CreativeCamp, Krishna De, who is seeking story tellers to participate in effective writing for Blogs.
Krishna is a leading Internet educator; some of you may remember her from Creative Camp held in Kilkenny earlier this year. She is very active in trying to teach writers and artists how easy it is to publish books with print-on-demand web companies and even poets on how to podcast their work to growing web audiences.
Krishna is seeking storytellers to take part in a short workshop at Podcamp II, on how to write more engaging Blogs. Interestingly Blogs are increasingly used by some authors to build audiences and content for future books. Podcamp II is to be held again this Sept on Sat 28 Sept in Kilkenny and is open to all those who wish to use the Internet better and its FREE!
