Welcome to the ArtLinks e-Newsletter A regular Art News and Information Bulletin from the participating ArtLinks Partner Counties: Co Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford, Wexford & Wicklow
Hi everyone,
Last Thursday was a special evening in which the 2008 Annual ArtLinks Bursaries were announced at a ceremony at Wexford Co. Council. A total of €40,000 was divided between the five ArtLinks counties, each individual receiving a Bursary of €8000. The 2008 ArtLinks Bursary recipients are:
Co. Carlow Joe Cleere Music Co. Kilkenny Alison Comerford Music Co. Wexford Sarah
Mc Laughlin Theatre Co. Wicklow Maggie Gallagher Theatre Co. Waterford Eve
O'Riordan Film
2008 is the second year of the
ArtLinks Bursary Award Scheme that highlights excellence in the Arts in 5
neighbouring counties; Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow and Waterford. The ArtLinks Bursaries gives
valuable support and recognition to individual practitioners of outstanding
merit and creative potential. The Awards are individually assessed by an independant panel, none of which live in the 5 counties. With the growing interest in this award, in early 2009, we will be holding talks on Applying for the ArtLinks Bursary and other local funding opportunities. Alison
Comerford (Kilkenny) & Joe Cleere (Carlow) after the Award Ceremony
ArtLinks
would like to congratulate all ArtLinks Bursary recipients on their
achievements. Full details on the About Page of www.artlinks.ie
This has also been a busy month in that the 3rd series of ArtLinks courses have been delivered around the 5 counties. We are seeing a significant increase in interest in the courses, even with new courses such as Marketing Your Creative work, Beginners Blogging for the Arts and the one to one Business Mentoring was very popular. It is always a real surprise to those that attend on the quality of information that is delivered at these courses - how passionate our tutors are and of course many people find the days invaluable for networking and peer support. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our tutors, both regular ArtLinks tutors and those that helped develop new courses in this last series. Members are advised that early booking is now advised for all ArtLinks courses and feedback/suggestions are always welcome. New courses are being developed for the Autumn, including mentoring advice days, so keep checking the website.
We also have an ever increasing number of ArtLinks members which means an increasing number of exhibitions, music gigs, festivals etc are now been listed on the ArtLinks online Events Calendar, all uploaded by ArtLinks members (I've included some on this newsletter but do check the Events Calendar for more details). I've been with ArtLinks a year now and I don't think it will be that long before we have over 1000 members. Therefore Members, please upload your press releases/events onto the ArtLinks Calendar rather than emailing notices to me personally. However, I do appreciate feedback and other queries to info@artlinks.ie (yes, I can email your login details to you if you have forgotten).
Upcoming Art events to highlight this month are the start of the Eigse Festival in Carlow; a World premiere Wexford music event 'Harbouring' by composer Ian Wilson & conducted by Fergus Sheil which is an innovatice Percent for Art Commission organised by the Wexford Arts Office and I was, last week at the launch of the Blackstairs Opera 08 Festival Launch - new for this year is their Proms and Prams family picnic & opera day at Borris House, Co. Carlow. We also have a prestigious International Illustrating Illustration Exhibition, curated by Mary Butler & Ale Mercado, (the designer behind ArtLinks), which is taking place shortly in the Kilkenny Arts Office Gallery No. 72. All details and more on the Events Calendar of www.artlinks.ie
There is a fantastic amount of creative work happening in the South East and I wish everyone well in their creative endeavours over the Summer,

Blogging for the Arts - An Update
Our recent ArtLinks course given by Blog tutor, Ken McGuire, was very successful. For those of you that missed the course, you'll be happy to know that Ken has created a blog on 'how to blog' for this course. You can sign up for emails from this blog on the homepage of www.ProFreelance Blogger.com
News: Ken and others will be giving more master classes on blogs and other new social networking media at Podcamp II , Saturday 27 September, 2008. Get Your Visual Work Online using Template Portfolio sites - Update A number of people have commented on the ArtLinks Portfolio Template Websites Courses for Art & Photography that we have run now in 4 counties.
Not all of you could attend and others have only begun to realise that that setting up and maintaining you own template website as an artist is a relatively simple procedure. Our tutor and painter, Padraig McCaul, gave a very thorough demonstration of how to set up one of these template websites in an hour! You can see Padraig's own site, which is a template site, at www.padraigmccaul.com, although you can easily choose more sophisticated designs.
Padraig does recommend www.foliolink.com - I use this template provider myself and we would both recommend to all artists interested in having a web presence to really consider template websites (or a blog for a more informal site) as they allow you to update your site yourself, for a set fee that is often far cheaper that approaching a web designer. You will find other template provider companies and Padriag's notes on the Archive page of www.artlinks.ie. Most companies provide a free trial period.
Please note: the use of Template websites requires that you have a basic knowledge of emailing and wordprocessing knowledge. If this is beyond you, there are members on the ArtLinks website that can help you set up such a site. Enter 'template web design' in the Keyword area of the artlinks.ie homepage. This also goes for other skills, such as 'photoshop' or 'music editing' - members are increasingly listed skills that they can offer to others.
