Professional Development pertains to the skills, knowledge and understanding that creative
practitioners need in order to develop their art practice and generate
an income from this practice, on a life-long basis, beyond their
initial arts training. The term 'professional' relates to the practice
and presentation of all art forms on a full-time, part-time, paid or
voluntary basis; the term 'practitioner' relates to practitioners of the artforms.
Sustaining a career in the creative sector lies in balancing the business with the practice of being a practitioner. |

Teaching Music Effectively
In association with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, London
This one-day course has been designed by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and will look at what makes an effective music teacher. The course will include a balance of theory, practice and group discussion and will provide an opportunity
for instrumental and vocal teachers to meet, to network, to have the
opportunity to talk about teaching and learning and to have fun making
music!
The course will also encourage music teachers to think about the way they teach and explore change. All teachers will be provided with a pack of materials and a free copy of The Music Teacher's Companion(published by ABRSM 2000).
This
course is for any instrumental or vocal teacher who has been teaching
for some time and is in need of refreshment and reflection and those
who have recently started teaching on either a full-time or part-time
basis. All you need to be involved is some experience of
instrumental/vocal teaching and a willingness to be open to new ideas.
The topics to be included will cover:
- How do you teach?
- How learners learn?
- Group teaching and learning
- Developing aural skills using improvisation
