Welcome to the ArtLinks ebulletin

A regular Art News and Information bulletin from the participating ArtLinks Partner Counties: Co Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford, Wexford, Wicklow

Seasons Greetings to you from ArtLinks and the ArtLinks Partner Arts Office Staff.

ArtLInks launch programme 2007Last month was a busy month with the Official Launch of ArtLinks in the parade Tower in Kilkenny (the original venue for the initial consultation with arts practitioners that occurred in May 2006).

Thanks to all those that travelled and helped make it such a successful
Dr M O'Suilleabhain evening. Our thanks especially to Dr Micheál Ó'Súilleabháin for his speech which officially launched, what he called 'heartlinks'. The night was filled with theatre and music performances; much laughter was provided by our other guest speaker, writer, Eoin Colfer, traditional musicians, Croi; Wexford based dancer Sandra Keil, Catapult Dance CompanyLuanch night and of course, singer cabaret artist, Camille O'Sullivan.

Congratulations to our first 2007 ArtLinks Bursary winners, many who were musicians this time around (perhaps an indication that the first series of ArtLinks Professional Development Courses for Music alerted more musicians than we realised). It was exciting for me personally to see that some of the people had attended ArtLinks courses getting the awards. The  Bursaries were assessed by independent panel; read more about the €40000 awarded t
o create the first significant Arts Bursaries in the region on the About page of the ArtLinks site.

As more people hear about ArtLinks Bursaries we are expecting more applications from all the arts forms in 2008; we hope you are encouraged to apply or let others know about the scheme. As you might know, the ArtLinks Bursaries complement the ongoing awards and funds that are available from your Local Arts Office. Please see the links on the Contact Page for all the Arts Office websites, where they list their funding opportunities throughout the year.

Looking to the New Year  we are now inviting people who are involved in Drama and Theatre to send in their ideas for the Spring 2008 courses (see more below).

The ArtLinks website has grown quickly and in a short time has proved to be a useful directory, one-stop information exchange site for all creative practitioners in the region. Thank you for your ongoing feedback and also to our designer and developer who have worked hard to create such an interactive site. We are hoping to expand the Archive area of the Artlinks.ie website to more fully present information gathered in the courses and  and introduce some more features - more later.

Another area hoped to be researched and developed in 2008 will be the idea of mentoring schemes; this is an exciting strand of the ArtLinks first mooted at the original Exchange Day.

Best wishes for all your creative work in 2008,

Cathy Fitzgerald
