Greetings!
Welcome to the newest edition of Dangerous Curves. There are so many awesome events coming up along with the sunshine of Spring and Summer. So keep visiting our site to see workshops, events, haflas and performance opportunities.
I performed in a top nightclub in China in August (The Lotus Palace) in Chengdu and was such a hit that the audience was climbing on top of eachother to get a glimpse of the shimmering goddess on stage!
HumanFusion is starting to lift off with calls for instructors going out in October. So to register your interest, drop me an email. :) See the article this month on HumanFusion to see what all the fuss is about.
Next month we'll have a fab interview with Amera from Amera's Palace in Sydney. A mesmerising woman who has inspired bellydancers around the globe for decades. Ameras Palace also is the key supplier for bellydancers on all things bellydance. :)
I will be performing Industrial Bellydance at the Annual Bellydancers Ball organised by Amera's Palace in October. Be sure to book your ticket soon by email or phone on the details at the bottom of this newsletter.
I will be holding Industrial Bellydance workshops in Melb, Sydney and Canberra in late 2007. Limited places are available so lodge your interest now. Further information on these workshops will be posted on the website by Sept 30.
Well enough from me, I'm glad the warmer weather is upon us so we can all get outdoors and strut our stuff. Feel free to email me your feedback on the newsletter as I'd love to keep this as a good info source.
Warm shimmies,

The Bellydancers of Cairo
Join American bellydancer Natasha Senkovich as she travels to Egypt to
explore the beauty, elegance, history, and stigma of her chosen art
form. Featuring stunning dance footage from such performers as Nagwa
Fouad, the program helps demystify bellydance--including its falsely
perceived relationship with prostitution in Middle Eastern
societies--while also showing how it empowers women across the globe.
72 min, In English. Bonus: Contains Extra Footage and interviews.
I found this extremely interesting and I learnt things about belly dance and it's history. It has some very personal interviews with some of Cairo's leading dancers revealing the impact of their decision to become bellydancers in Cairo.
This DVD can be purchased from www.Amazon.com or www.Ameraspalace.com.au

Healing through belly dance
|
|
Life's many experiences can produce unsavory effects on the body. How it is possible that something as pleasurable as belly dancing could provide us with such a healing touch? Here are a few possibilities of how Belly Dancing restores the mind, body, and spirit:
· By focusing on specific moves in relation to the music, we forget about our everyday life stresses. Thus, our mind takes a mini-vacation while we dance.
· Becoming an expression of the music, we absorb the natural healing qualities of sound.
· Creating new neurological connections to perform particular moves, like a hand undulation, we strengthen our brain and its ability to communicate with the body.
· Exercising regularly, our body is more conditioned and the immune system is stimulated. The health benefits increase when our practices include twenty minutes of fast-paced movements.
· Working areas we normally hold tension, such as the shoulders, lower back, and hips, we are releasing the tensions of the day. By performing snake arms, shoulder slides, hip slides, and other applicable moves, the previously tensed-up areas are more able to function as originally designed.
· Dancing with our arms, our different energy centers (also known as chakras) are attuned. Belly Dance offers a balancing benefit to the body's overall energy system. Circling arm movements pull energy into our body while linear arm movements sweep excesses out of the overflowing areas. By balancing the uneven energy flows, the body is more able to replenish itself.
· Practicing an ancient art, we tune into and learn about other cultures. Our increased knowledge enables us to be more accepting of the diverse belief systems and ways of life. By being more accepting of others,' potential conflicts are minimized or even eliminated.
· By dancing with others, our spirit is replenished. We develop a sense of belonging to a supportive community. In turn, we become a support system for others.
· Dancing with others, we become more accepting of other people and enjoy who they are. In turn, we relax and enjoy who we are as well. What had been previously held as threatening - feminity -- has now become a true blessing.
Be aware of the great blessings in your life and how Belly Dancing has assisted in the creation and/or developments of these blessings

BELLY DANCE MOVE OF THE MONTH
|
|
Hip Twists
Hip Twists are such
fun and a great way to travel around the dance floor. The energy
comes from the hips twisting front and back. The legs are straight, but not locked, and we
feel the evenness of the movement as the hips moves front and back. With starting hip
twists, I like to think of surrounding the hips with a box. The hip twists from the front corner to the back corner. When the right
hip is back, the left hip is front and conversely, left hip front, the right hip is back.
In twisting, we take the energy and beat the rhythm of the hip to the back or to the
front.
A fun exercise is to first twist the right hip back for 8 counts and then twist the
hip front for 8 counts, making sure that the hips are moving equally front / back in the
box. What is interesting is that the look of the movement doesn't change but the
energy changes from front to back. Do this to both sides and you see that you can really
control the hip twists.
