Parade magazine is awarding $500,000 in prizes including $1000 each to the top 100 charities and $50,000 each to the top 8 charities!! Many thanks to the following people (and a whole slew of you who chose to remain anonymous) who already went to www.redeem-her.org and clicked DONATE on the America's Giving Challenge banner. Redeem-Her would like to introduce you to our newest friend and Alumna, Lisa Zelenak. Lisa grew up in New Brunswick and quickly graduated to a life of fast money and lots of it. She pushed drugs on the streets of New Brunswick for many, many years before she finally became addicted herself. Addiction quickly led her to a life of homelessness, sickness, in and out jail stays, and despair. In 2001, nearing her 40th birthday, Lisa found herself in prison for the second time. Realizing that she was throwing her life away, she decided to get clean.
She was released on September 17th of 2001, but without anywhere to go. Parole sent her to a homeless shelter where many, many people actively in addiction were living and where drugs were readily accessible. Her resolve to stay clean lasted 2 months before Lisa relapsed. It was two years before Lisa asked for help and decided to get clean again. She found the help she needed at the Crawford House in Skillman, NJ. This time the positive life changes stuck. We would like to ask you to join with us in giving our heartfelt congratulations to Lisa as we celebrate the 4th anniversary of her new life and complete freedom from drugs and alcohol on January 29th.
Lisa is the hardest worker you could ever meet, and her hard work has paid off. After four years as a faithful employee at Shop-Rite, she will be starting a new job next week with a $4 per hour pay increase! Lisa is extremely active in Narcotics Anonymous, attending 3-5 meetings a week. She is a member of the H & I (Hospitals and Institutions) Committee serving persons who are not able to attend regular recovery meetings by bringing N/A meetings to them. She also serves as an N/A sponsor to other women newly in recovery and devotes a great deal of time to being available by phone to anyone trying to stay clean.
It is our distinct pleasure to count Lisa among our ranks and celebrate her many accomplishments!

Stacey goes to school!
Many, many thanks to the Monmouth-Ocean Nonprofit Assistance Center (www.monac.org) who has awarded a scholarship to our director and founder, Stacey Kindt, to pursue a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Brookdale Community College. Stacey begins in February and will have one year to complete the courses required to obtain the certificate, some of which include: Board Development for Nonprofits, Recruiting, Retaining and Managing Volunteers, Strategic Planning for Nonprofits, Fund Raising and Marketing for Nonprofits, and Advanced Grant Writing. And thanks to Jersey Central Power and Light for their generous donation, which funded the scholarship. |
