We need your help.
Those of you who have been so generous to stick with Redeem-Her over the years know that we very rarely make direct requests for funds. But we do have two immediate needs.
Some of you are aware that our Redeem-Her House in Burlington County is under attack by the township, for no good reason. Nobody wants criminals in their community, I suppose, but certainly in our case, with women who have made a commitment to a new life for themselves (and who are drug tested four times a week, attend five recovery meetings a week for their first 90 days and three per week after that, have a 6 pm curfew, and must maintain fulltime employment), you couldn't ask for better neighbors. In fact, we have never had any complaints from anyone in the neighborhood, or any interaction with the police or that sort of thing. They are just being discriminated against for their pasts without regard for their current right living. It is the old story of fighting stereotypes.
Although the law is on our side, and we have two attorneys who have generously donated their time to defend us, the township has tried to wear us down with numerous inspections and demands for repairs. We have had to tear out a bathtub and shower, remove electrical outlets and lighting in the backyard, switch doors so that they open the other way (?!), and replace an entire gas stove because one burner refused to light.
Sean Lorenzo of Pinnacle Plumbing in Toms River not only gave us rock bottom prices for the work that was required, but also drove over 2 hours round trip to do the work on numerous occasions. Still, we owe $900 for the repairs. And the furnace is not working for some reason, and we still have not replaced the stove.
Secondly, as the number of children in the organization has increased so has the need to transport them! We received a donation of a GREATLY needed van and took it right over to Sam at Prospect Point Valero in Point Pleasant Beach for the necessary repairs. Sam was so kind to repair the van even though we were not able to immediately pay for the work that was done. The total amount owed for repairs, registration and insurance is $800.
If anyone is able to help with a financial contribution at this time, we would greatly celebrate it. And, we really do celebrate it -- we jump around doing something akin to the Snoopy dance every time someone cares enough about our effort to pitch in. We are always sincerely touched and, frankly, a little surprised! You can click the link below to donate or send a check through the mail to:
