Labor Day at Redeem-Her
The Great Backpack Giveaway!
Dear ,
I wish you could have been here in Point Pleasant Beach this past Labor Day weekend to see firsthand all the hustle and bustle. It's not surprising that the Jersey Shore is the happening place on this last long weekend of the summer, but we had hustle and bustle of a different sort! As part of our Children of Promise program, Redeem-Her distributed backpacks, school clothes, shoes and school supplies to children of incarcerated and recently released women. In all, 24 children received new, completely stocked backpacks. Twelve were also in need of clothes and shoes, and received those as well ... all through your generosity.
So, many thanks to all of you who contributed, particularly the Manasquan Friends Meeting, our family from Frances' home group in Toms River, Pat in Manalapan and friends, the First United Methodist women, our Catholic friends from Jackson, and so many others.
You were so generous, in fact, that we had a surplus! We've teamed up, therefore, with WRITE-NJ ( www.write-nj.org ), an organization that provides college courses inside prison, and also helps women with a history of incarceration to succeed in college on the outside. We are now providing fully stocked backpacks to women entering college! Again, thank you for your generosity. We couldn't do what we do, if you didn't do what you do!
Sincerely,
Stacey Kindt
