| Message From The Director |
June was a very busy month for the LGBT Aging Project! Thanks so much to those of you who joined us for all of our terrific Pride Celebrations last month! We were especially pleased to mark the 40th Anniversary of Boston Pride with many of those who attended that first Boston Pride in 1970 (see photo below of the Pride Class of 1970). We were thrilled to travel with Producer Stu Maddux and many members of the cast for Gen Silent film screenings at Newfest in New York and two screenings at the Provincetown Film Festival. Audiences are so moved by the film and these screenings are generating lots more invitations for Gen Silent to travel the world. We're using this summer for some much needed vacation time and getting ready for many new projects - so keep an eye out for new programming and lots more activity starting this fall. Enjoy the Summer and Be Well,
Lisa Krinsky, LICSW

| Gen Silent Update |
Gen Silent Screening at the Satte House:
On June 16th, Rep. Liz Malia, Rep. Carl Scortiono and Rep Barbara L'Italien hosted a screening of Gen Silent for the Massachusetts Legislature and their staff. About sixty legislators and staff attended the private screening, met most of the cast and heard from filmmaker Stu Maddux and LGBT Aging Project Director Lisa Krinsky. Rep. Malia and Rep. Sciortino spoke about the importance of the film as it illustrates the issues that are universal for many older adults and caregivers as well as the unique experiences that LGBTs face. They also highlighted current proposed legislation - the Trans Rights Bill and the Elder Inclusion Bill (requiring Elder Affairs to include LGBT training for the state network of elder services) as examples of how the legislature can take immediate action to improve the lives of LGBT older adults and caregivers.
Gen Silent Premieres in New York City and Provincetown:
On June 4th, just two days before our Tea Dance, Lisa and Bob joined Mel Simms, Lawrence Johnson, Irving Camile, Dale Mitchell and David Imming traveled to New York City to meet director Stu Maddux for Gen Silent's New York premiere, part of NewFest, New York's LGBT film festival.
On June 17th and 19th we changed our mode of transportation from the Bolt Bus to the Provincetown Ferry as the group traveled to Cape Cod for the Provincetown International Film Festival.

| Old and Bold Summer OUTing in Salem | On July 15th a group of nearly 50 LGBT seniors travelled by car, train and ferry to Salem Massachusetts for a wonderful 'Summer OUTing' hosted by North Shore Elder Services and Ethos. The group enjoyed a lively trolley tour of Salem followed by a wonderful talk by historian Jim McAllister about Salem's past from the shipping industry to the witch hunts. After a picnic at The Willows State Park and a special visit from the Mayor of Salem, Kim Driscoll, the group visited the Peabody Essex Museum and the Salem Farmer's Market before returning home. The goal of this event was to bring some visibility to a new North Shore group launched by North Shore Elder Services and The LGBT Aging Project. This group, called The Old and Bold Coalition brings together community members and LGBT Seniors from the North Shore who have a shared interest in issues of LGBT Aging. For more information on the Old and Bold Coalition contact Rhonda Gauthier at 978-750-4540 ext 220.

Housing department issues policy on LGBT discrimination
By Celeste Lavin, 365Gay.com
In keeping with the recent Obama Administration push to equalize policies among federal agencies, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced a new policy to address LGBT housing discrimination. The policy clarifies that gender identity and expression discrimination is included under the gender discrimination provision of the Fair Housing Act.
A Stonewall veteran, 89, misses the parade by Manny Fernandez, New York Times
At noon on Sunday, thousands of marchers filled Fifth Avenue for New York City's annual gay pride parade. Nearly six miles away, on the sixth floor of a nursing home in Brooklyn, the frail, white-haired woman in beige pajamas and brown slippers in Room 609 sat motionless at the edge of her bed, staring out her window.
Many of those who marched down Fifth Avenue on Sunday would be hard pressed to realize that this little old lady - once the cross-dressing M.C. of a group of drag-queen performers, once a fiercely protective (and pistol-packing) bouncer in the city's lesbian bars - was one of the reasons they were marching.

Lois Johnson and Sheri Barden have a thousand and one stories to tell on 70-plus years of life, love, and the LGBT movement.
Sitting at the kitchen table with Lois Johnson and Claire "Sheri" Barden, listening to stories they have accumulated over the course of a lifetime, it seems like a scene from If These Walls Could Talk.
