| Message From The Director |
Dear Friends,
June is LGBT Pride month and do you know who is celebrating Pride this year?
President Obama has once again issued his annual proclamation for LGBT Pride Month, which reads:
"As Americans, it is our birthright that all people are created equal and deserve the same rights, privileges, and opportunities. Since our earliest days of independence, our Nation has striven to fulfill that promise. An important chapter of our great, unfinished story is the movement for fairness and equality on behalf of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. This month, as we recognize the immeasurable contributions of LGBT Americans, we renew our commitment to the struggle for equal rights for LGBT Americans and to ending prejudice wherever it exists" Click here to read the rest of this proclamation.
Whether this is your first Pride Celebration or your 40th, the LGBT Aging Project wants you to join us as the our community gathers together. Its important that older adults and their friends are seen and heard throughout the celebrations. Many events are listed below and we hope to see you there.
Happy Pride!

In The News |
We're Here. We're Queer. We're Retiring. As America's gay population ages, LGBT seniors are opting to retire among their own. By Linda Stern, Newsweek
The last place lesbians and gays want to go when they retire is back into the closet. Just like the larger population, LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) seniors want to settle into comfortable, low-maintenance homes in welcoming and affordable communities. "There are estimated to be up to 6 million LGBT baby boomers, and 1 [million] to 3 million over the age of 65,"
Fifty is Surprisingly Fabulous by Jeff Epperly, contributing editor, Bay Windows
It's my 50th birthday as I write this -- cash gifts only, please -- and that event is interesting in relation to this column mostly in terms of what this birthday is not. And primarily what it has not been is stressful. Thirty didn't bother me; nor did 40. But somehow I thought that at 50 -- halfway to 100 -- even I could not escape the feeling that I'd crested the hill of life and was on my way down.
