| A Message From The Director:
Welcome to 2010! We are pleased to announce a wonderful gift that we hope you'll consider contributing to as well. The LGBT Aging Project lost a cherished friend when Carol Riso died in November 2009. Carol was a longtime leader of OLE (Older Lesbian Energy) and a dedicated member of the Senior Pride Coalition as well. Joyce Crowder made a generous contribution to the LGBT Aging Project in memory of Carol Riso and we hope that you'll consider honoring Carol's memory in this way as well. We plan to use this gift to continue our outreach to older LGBTs, especially to older lesbians, to help create the strong sense of community that Carol held so dearly. If you would like to make a gift to honor Carol's memory you can do so online ( click here) or by sending a check to: The LGBT Aging Project, 555 Amory St. Boston 02130. Please indicate that your gift is in Carol's memory and remember that your generous contribution to The LGBT Aging Project is tax deductible to the extent allowable by law. Be well, Lisa Krinsky LICSW Director LGBT Aging Project | |

North Shore Elder Services Hosts Holiday "Old and Bold" Event For LGBT Seniors, Caregivers and Community Allies
On December 9, 2009 winter weather did not stop nearly 70 people from attending "Old and Bold: A Community Conversation and Networking Event on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Aging on the North Shore. " The event was a tremendous success!
North Shore Elder Services, a mainstream elder service agency, has enthusiastically participated in the Open Door Task Force, the LGBT Aging Project's LGBT cultural competency program and The Aging Project was pleased to co-host this wine and cheese event as NSES' initial outreach to LGBT older adults and caregivers in their community.
John Archer of Danvers graciously opened his beautiful home to seniors, caregivers, allies, providers and community members interested in issues of aging for LGBT seniors on the North Shore. Participants completed surveys indicating their interest in future social and educational events as well as service needs in the community. With the New Year here, planning has begun for the next event on the North Shore.

Gen Silent Announces International Premiere: May 2010 In Boston
You have heard us mention the upcoming documentary Gen Silent many times, and perhaps you have even seen a preview of the film's trailer at one of our events. This project means a lot to us because it illustrates the stories of LGBT seniors, caregivers and advocates that we work with right here in Boston. And now, we are pleased to announce that the international premiere of the completed documentary Gen Silent, will take place this May at the Boston LGBT Film Festival.
"Since the film shares the lives of LGBT people in the Boston area, we couldn't ask for a better place or a better event to premiere the film," says Gen Silent Producer Joseph Applebaum.
"We are especially honored to be the site of the world premiere..." adds James Nadeau, the festival's executive director. "Gen Silent will be a wonderful addition to our festival."

Elsie Frank Long Term Care Residence for LGBTs to open in February 2010!
Next month, February 2010 will bring the opening of the nation's first Green House® nursing home for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender residents in Chelsea, Massachusetts. The LGBT Green House is named for Elsie Frank, mother of Congressman Barney Frank, in recognition of her tireless advocacy on issues affecting the elderly and LGBT communities. The Green House model is an innovative model of nursing care that provides skilled nursing and daily care services to residents in a home environment. Ten residents live in each of the ten condo-style Green Houses at the Leonard Florence Center for Living, for a total of 100 residents in the building. The ten residents of the Elsie Frank House will have their own private bedroom and bathroom, with a shared living, dining and kitchen areas. The main floor of the building, "Main Street USA", has a café, bakery, chapel, deli, day spa, and a peace garden, allowing residents to "get out of the house." "We have chosen to dedicate one of our Green Houses to the LGBT community because everyone deserves to live and receive care in a place that is filled with respect for who they are, and for their dignity" said CEO Barry Berman when asked why he has included LGBTs in this groundbreaking project. "Be assured that the staff at Elsie Frank have chosen to work with LGBT residents and we look forward to creating a strong sense of community in this House." The Elsie Frank House at the Leonard Florence Center for Living is part of the Chelsea Jewish Foundation. They will also have several first-in-the-nation specialty residences for those with Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS) and multiple sclerosis, utilizing unprecedented technology to allow residents to maintain control of and live their lives fully while dealing with devastating diseases. >> More info click here or contact Ina Hoffman at 617-887-0001, or via e-mail at ihoffman@cflestates.org.
