June 2009 Pride Edition!

 Greetings!

It's that time again, Gay Pride! As always we have so much to celebrate and be thankful for. Pride is also a time for each of us to step out and remind the world around us that older people are a vital part of every Pride celebration, so come out and join us!

In this edition of Do Tell we want to get you information on:
  • The Pride Tea Dance for LGBT Seniors and Friends
  • Parade and Pride Festival
  • Senior Pride Night at the Boston Gay Men's Chorus - Pride Concert.
  • Update on our film "Gen Silent"
We hope to see you at many of the events!

 BGMC

Senior Pride Night at BGMC Concert

Join the Senior Pride Coalition for the Boston Gay Men's Chorus Pride Concert on Thursday evening June 11th at 8pm. The concert is a memorable and campy look back at the music of the 80's. It is a hilarious flash back covering the whole era from "Love Shack" to "It's Raining Men" and TV & Film memories like "Flash Dance" to "Making Love." Tickets are $20 and are available at Cafe Emmanuel and Out to Brunch or by calling the BGMC office, (617) 542-7464.

Ethos collage

On May 14th, at the Historic Footlight Club in Jamaica Plain, over one hundred people came out to celebrate and honor Ethos' commitment to serving Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Seniors and Caregivers. Central Boston Elder Services was the co sponsor of this event which was attended by dignitaries including Mayor Menino, Representative Liz Malia and Commissioner Eliza Greenberg.

Policy Update:

Thanks to those of you who responded to our e-lerts and contacted your state representatives and senators asking them to continue supporting the Aging Project's LGBT cultural competency work with mainstream elder service providers in the FY2010 budget. As of now, it appears that Aging Project's funding and program allocations will be included in the new budget so that we can continue our innovative and exciting work ensuring that mainstream elder care providers across the state have the skills and ability to create welcoming environments for LGBT seniors and caregivers.
