Policy Update: Thank you to State Representatives Malia & Sciortino:

This year's House budget debate showed that our gay and lesbian elected officials are also increasingly concerned with elderly issues.   State reps. Liz Malia and Carl Sciortino both took leadership on elder priorities.   For the third year running, Rep. Malia secured language that will insure aging service providers are trained on how to serve LGBTs.   And Rep. Sciortino took the lead on securing $2.5M for a new program to provide long-term care options counseling for elders and disabled people about to be discharged from hospitals.   The Aging Project welcomes the leadership role our elected leaders are taking on elderly issues.

Gen Silent PhotoIntroducing "Gen Silent"

We are very excited to share some wonderful news with you.  The LGBT Aging Project has been working with Los Angeles Director, Stu Maddux ("Bob and Jack's 52 Year Adventure") to make a film about LGBT Aging. The film's dramatic tag-line reads: The generation that fought the hardest to come out is going back in the closet - to survive. For the past nine months Stu has been travelling back and forth from LA following four LGBT elders rich in history who suffer so much isolation and fear that they contemplate hiding their sexuality to find safe healthcare/long-term care. The film also features the professionals around the country who are trying to change the system.

We are proud to tell you that there will be two opportunities to see a sneak peak of this film, Gen Silent, and meet the director, Stu Maddux at this year's LGBT Film Festival.  You will be able to see this special preview at both of the films the LGBT Aging Project is cosponsoring. The dates and times are as follows:

Saturday Morning May 9th at 11am at the Museum of Fine Arts following the film "A Place to Live"

Tuesday Evening at 7pm at Fenway Health (1340 Boylston) following the film "Out Late" (Discussion & feedback w/ Director to follow preview).
