California Budget Cuts Effect The ARC
3 ARC Programs Suspended
In this time of economic recession, the State of California has passed significant funding cuts to individuals with developmental disabilities. These budget reductions directly affect the services that the Arc of Butte County provides here in Butte, Glenn and Tehama Counties The Arc has been told by Far Northern Regional Center (the service agency that contracts with the State Department of Developmental) that the Arc's Socialization, Tutor and Recreational Therapy programs will be temporarily suspended. There is no date set when funding might me restored. These programs allow children and adults to successfully integrate into our local communities.
ARC families recently discussed on NBC how the budget cuts have effected their children... see News clip here. The Arc will be no longer providing services to 197 clients, resulting in a $750,000.00 loss in program revenue. These new program cuts come on top of $150,000 in cuts Arc sustained last February when the state passed their first phase of budget cuts. The combined impacts amounts to 20% of Arc's funding. The Arc expects to layoff 60 employees in addition to management work furloughs, cuts to health insurance and other expenditure reductions implemented last year in reaction to the financial impacts cause by the economic recession.
Better yet, why not contact the Governor and let him know how these cuts are effecting your family. His office number is (916) 445.2841... and you'll find his email here. Let your voice be heard.

Annie B's Ends Sept 30th
This year is a financial struggle for everyone. We all read the headlines concerning unemployment and business stagnation. However, rarely mentioned are the severe problems experienced by nonprofits. Donations are down, grants are drying up, and the government is reducing or eliminating many contracts. We know it may be a struggle for you to make a contribution.
However, when you donate during the Annie B's Community Drive, your donation will be supplemented with a percentage grant from North Valley Community Foundation (NVCF). How can you help us get this money?
Simply make your donation between August 1 and September 30. Gifts must be made on behalf of The Arc of Butte County and mailed to: NVCF at 3120 Cohasset Road, Suite 8, Chico, CA 95973. Donations can also be made on line by clicking right... HEREThank you! |
