Family Support Has International Guests

David Smallhouse with CharlieOn February 28th, international students from Pakistan volunteered their time with the Rainbow of Kids Club & Older Kids Club Saturday Program.

The Pakistani women joined the O.K.C. at Glazed Creations and assisted them in making decorative tiles. The Pakistani men went with the R.O.K.C. to Funland for miniature golf.

"They were inquisitive regarding men and women's roles in the United States concerning children with disabilities. They were surprised how supportive the Chico community is regarding people with special needs," shared Rene Toussant, Family Support Coordinator, "The Pakistani students hoped to bring about change in their schools and communities regarding disabled individuals."

"The Arc provided a great experience that the Upper FATA Pakistan students will never forget," said Diana Parks, CSUC Cultural Interfacing Project Director.

Questions about Family Support, or either Saturday's R.O.K.C. or O.K.C.? Please, contact Rene.

Tutor Out to Lunch @ Burger Hut

Fun and fries were had by all Tutor clients and instructors on a recent lunch gathering at Burger Hut.
 David Smallhouse with Charlie
"These community outings help Tutor clients gain self confidence," says Colleen Nelson, Tutor Coordinator (in picture to the left with client Charlotte), "and we get to explore new experiences together at the same time."

Instructor Mara and clients Charlotte and Esther patiently await their tasty orders. Would you like smiles with that?

Chico ADP in "Aladdin & The New Genie"

The 7th Street Center for the Arts will performing "Aladdin and the New Genie" at the Arc Pavilion on Friday the 24th.

Two of Arc's Chico Adult Day Program clients, Tyrel Smith and Glenda Davidson, have been performing with the troupe since they began the tour in January.

"It's fun," shares Tyrel Smith, "I've learned a lot about acting. After this play is done we'll start doing "Ready or Not". It's about safety and what to do in an emergency."

Questions about this performance or the Chico ADP?

Please, contact Nelson, Dodi or Sara.

ARC Store Helps Kids Discover Reading

We're excited to announce our new "Discover Reading!" Children's Literacy Program in our Oroville ARC Store.

During the months of April and May any child, grades K thru 8, who brings an Arc "Discover Reading!" Book Voucher to the ARC Store in Oroville, 2745 Oro Dam Blvd., will receive one free children's book of their choice.

"The ARC Store receives book donations from the community every day," says Brenda Easter, ARC Store manager, "As a grandmother, I thought why not share them with the children in town and hopefully spark their imaginations."

The Arc will distribute approx 1,000 vouchers to four Oroville Elementary Schools and the Boys & Girls Club on Lower Wyandotte. We hope this new program will inspire children to read, explore and expand their horizons.

For more information regarding the Arc's "Discover Reading!" Book Voucher Program, please, contact ARC Store Manager, Brenda Easter, at 532.1272
