Greetings!
Here is a trivia question for you. According to Wikipedia, in what year was the world's first English-speaking Chamber of Commerce established?
Wikipedia refers to a Chamber of Commerce as:"a local organization of businesses whose goal is to further the interests of businesses. Business owners in towns and cities form these local societies to advocate on behalf of the business community. Local businesses are members, and they elect a board of directors or executive council to set policy for the chamber. The board or council then hires a President, CEO or Executive Director, plus staffing appropriate to size, to run the organization."
So, in short, the Chamber of Commerce is composed of all of you. It is a reflection of our business community and provides leverage on matters that may be too grand for any individual to tackle alone.
To that end, this month we are hosting an event in conjunction with the Village of Mt. Prospect presenting all of the benefits of being located in the Kensington Business Center to the organizations located within those confines. We will have representatives from many different community organizations present the wide array of services available to the businesses and their employees in the KBC. If you're located in the vicinity of the Kensington Business Center, I hope you come out to attend this first-time event!
To use a sailing analogy, the Chamber's course is pretty well charted by those that take a more active role with their membership. A phone call to Jim expressing an opinion can be like a gust of wind pushing the ship in a new direction. A business owner willing to spend some time being a Board Member is like a 50-foot wave using their input and opinions to chart the course of the Chamber.
So if you're standing on land, watching the U.S.S. Chamber sail on by, I invite you to get on board.
By the way, the first English-speaking Chamber was located here in the good ole' US of A...in New York in 1768.
A BIG WELCOME
Welcome aboard to CoreLink Data Centers, our newest neighbor in the Kensington Business Center. What an impressive facility! With all of the power and redundancy built into that building I half-expected to see Neo (Keanu Reeves in The Matrix) hooked up to an artificial reality.
CoreLink Data Centers offer "state-of-the-art facilities and data center services for the colocation and management of mission-critical business applications." Much more detail about the services they provide can be found: http://www.corelink.com/services.htm.
So now Mt. Prospect is the "Home of the Cloud." Well...maybe we won't use that one. London has that covered already.
DON'T FORGET!
The Chamber's upcoming Holiday Luncheon is scheduled for Thursday, December 9th. Registration will be open very soon. I look forward to seeing you there!
