The Boston Herald Chamber's Chavern Comments On Obama, Businesses Relationship
When it comes to the economy, White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett wants to remind everyone: Her boss inherited this mess.
But health care, said David Chavern, chief operating officer of the US Chamber of Commerce, was 'the big break. They've certainly made some recent moves that have been helpful,' he said. 'But it's been pretty late in coming frankly.' In recent administrations, no one has appeared publicly tasked with outreach to corporate executives. That's because the West Wing was filled with former ones. But when the administration listens so intently and then doesn't take action, it leaves the impression no one understands how their policies are creating uncertainty, Chavern said. 'Business leaders have had an opportunity to make their point, but it didn't seem to have any effect,' he said. 'Eventually, people get it: that while the administration might have you over for dinner, it doesn't necessarily improve their policies.'

| Greetings!
In just a couple of months we will all be trying to think of the things we should be thankful for. I am going to start early.
Specifically, I want to thank those who have helped to keep the Chamber of Commerce a viable organization in the midst of the economic challenges faced by the Chamber as well as the businesses for which we operate.
And you should thank them too.
Why? Well...while the Chamber of Commerce has a duty to provide advocacy and assistance to our Members, it has also been a presence. This presence has helped provide the Village with that small town feeling that makes Mt. Prospect such a terrific place to work or raise kids. This presence is the result of people who make things happen.
I am speaking of a person like Dawn Fletcher-Collins who has organized the Mt. Prospect Downtown Block Party for as long as I can remember. The Block Party is a shining example of a wonderful event that gives Mt. Prospect that small town feel.
Dawn, we owe you a big THANK YOU.
I am speaking of a person like Bob Koren, Northwest Community Hospital, who has helped get the 5K Walk/Run in the Kensington Business Center off the ground. This event not only provides a forum for a healthy event but it also raises funds for both the Chamber as well as the Northwest Suburban United Way.
Bob, we owe you a big THANK YOU too.
I am speaking of a person like Cliff Higley, U-Keep-Us-In-Stitches. You would know Cliff as the crazy man driving around Mt. Prospect events on a cooler. Yes, that crazy man is Cliff. And while Cliff likes to have some fun, he gets very serious while organizing the two golf outings that help to sustain the Chamber and that help to bring everyone together.
Cliff, we also owe you a big THANK YOU.
Dawn, Bob, and Cliff are all volunteers. They do what they do for their love of our community. I'm not sure where we would be without their efforts but I hesitate to even consider that possibility.
Bob is already reviewing several ideas how to make next year's 5K Walk/Run even better. Dawn is already counting the days to next July's Block Party. And Cliff is under the gun with the Fall Golf Outing taking place next Thursday, September 23rd.
They never stop. And we love them for that.
The world cares very little about what a man or woman knows; it is what a man or woman is able to do that counts. -Booker T. Washington , Leader and Educator
