Singing the Blues in Mt. Prospect

Thirty years ago we met the Blues Brothers on the big screen.  And wouldn't you know it?  Elwood decided to pick up Jake from Joliet in a Mt. Prospect police car!  As Elwood stated it:  "This was a bargain. I picked it up at the Mount Prospect City police auction last spring. It's an old Mount Prospect police car. They were practically giving them away."
Being from the southwest suburbs, and only eighteen years old at the time, this was my first introduction to Mt. Prospect.  At least (I figured in my teen-naïve way) they have cool cop cars up there!
In the last few years, the spotlight has really focused on Mt. Prospect.

First, in 2008, Businessweek began the trend by stating: "Mount Prospect, Ill., is a quiet Chicago suburb with a population of just over 56,000. It is a tight-knit town where over the past eight years Prospect High School's football team won three state championships, its Marching Knights picked up their 26th straight grand champion title at the annual state marching band festival, and just last month the school itself ranked 12th among all state high schools. Now the town is also the winner of Businessweek's second annual roundup of the Best Places in America to Raise Kids."

     BusinessWeek Magazine Article

This was recently followed by the Lee DeWyze phenomenon.  I hope you were able to attend the celebration on the Village Green the night that Lee won the American Idol competition as it certainly was an evening to remember.  That evening--as well as the parade through town, the ubiquitous Lee t-shirts, and the visitors who come to see where Lee sold paint or attended school--has certainly kept the attention focused here.
And now CNN/Money magazine has jumped on the bandwagon ranking Mt. Prospect 56th on their Top Places to Live list: "With yearly events like the Midsummer Downtown Block Party -- an outdoor festival featuring live music, food and plenty of free activities for kids -- and close proximity to Chicago and its countless recreational offerings, it's hard to imagine anyone being at a loss for what to do on a weekend."

So let's keep it going.  And what better image to project this than the Bluesmobile?

"It's got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters, so it'll run good on regular gas. What do you say? Is it the new Bluesmobile or what?"  - Elwood Blues, 1980

ITT Tech Welcomes New Students

ITT Technical Institute in Mount Prospect will hold its fall New Student Orientation on August 26, 2010. "Orientation day is an eagerly-anticipated time on our campus," comments School Director Dr. Kris Ginley. "The atmosphere is energized, as school administrators and faculty members welcome new students and their families, and students receive information about academic life and campus resources. New Student Orientation is an important first step for students beginning this academic journey." Dr. Ginley encourages anyone interested in learning more about ITT Tech-Mount Prospect to visit the campus on August 19, which is Open House. "Whether you're thinking about returning to school in September or are an employer who would like to explore what our students and graduates have to offer in the workplace, you're always welcome on our campus."

Top 15 Website Mistakes
Date: 10/7/2010
Start Time: 8:30 AM
Is your website helping your business or hurting it? There are literally thousands of things that can and do make a website an Internet disaster, some of which can be very dangerous. A website is very much like an iceberg - what you don't see can really hurt you (think Titanic). Leah Richter of Richterworks Web and Graphic Design will explain what is lurking below the surface that could sink your website in the Internet sea.

Please either contact Registration at the Library (847-253-5675) or register online at http://www.mppl.org/events/index.html.
