NEW Jobs Bill Legislation (H.R. 2847)

Employers that have hired qualified unemployed workers beginning on February 3, 2010, will not be required to remit the employer share of the Social Security tax (6.2 %) for those individuals while they are employed for 2010.  The employer is still required to withhold and remit the employee's share of the Social Security tax and both the employer and employee shares of the Medicare tax.
In addition, employers that retain such employees for 52 weeks may be eligible for an additional $1,000 credit off corporate taxes.

As a result of this change, the Internal Revenue service will be issuing a new 941 return to be used for the second quarter of 2010.  Any first quarter credit amounts will be treated as a 941 payment and will be claimed on the form 941 in the second quarter.

For more information about this biil, contact your tax or accounting advisor.

Bob Chinn's April 7th at 5:30pm.
Greetings!

It is always at this time of year that hope springs eternal.  Whether you're a die-hard Cubs fan or a tried and true White Sox fan, you have high hopes for your team.

Small business owners usually feel the same way about their business when first starting out.  However, at some point reality sets in and challenges present themselves.  Similar to the ace of the pitching staff hurting his arm or the highly-paid All-Star who goes into a batting slump, we often face challenges that we didn't anticipate in our own "spring training."

The best teams have prepared for the worst.  Other players pick up the slack and help to carry the team until their star heals.  Or the manager creatively finds a way to make the most of the team he has been given.  What was learned in spring training becomes even more important at these times.

Many businesses are facing challenges like these now.  The economy has caused many businesses to simultaneously go back to the basics while also finding ways to become more creative.

So this is a reminder to Chamber members.

Get back to basics!  Your dues are paid.  Are you taking full advantage of the benefits the Chamber offers?

To find out, attend one of our monthly orientation meetings-always held on the third Friday of the month at the Chamber office.  You do not need to be a new member to find out how to take full advantage of the benefits and opportunities to promote your business.

And get creative!  Reserve a table for the Downtown Block Party and make it memorable.  Use the 5K Run in the fall for teambuilding.  Reward that favorite client by asking them to join your golf outing foursome.

Like an effective coach, we take a great deal of joy out of seeing our players (our members) succeed.

Allow us to help make you champions.

Mount Prospect Celebrates National Engineer Week with Visit from Mount Prospect Firefighter/Paramedic
ITT Technical Institute in Mount Prospect would like to express sincere appreciation to Mount Prospect Firefighter/Paramedic Kevin Christianson for his presentation during National Engineer Week.  This year, the school celebrated National Engineer Week with the theme: "Engineer Your Life." As one of the highlights of the week, Christianson discussed and demonstrated how technology helps fight fires.  Shelby Krzyzak, ITT Tech's Dean of Academic Affairs, comments, "We truly appreciate Kevin's sharing his knowledge about fire safety with our students, faculty and staff. We very much enjoyed seeing and learning about the remarkable advances in firefighting technology. Everyone who attended Kevin's presentation felt inspired by his passion and enthusiasm for science, safety and health.  Our thanks go to Kevin and to the Mount Prospect Fire Department for this outstanding visit."
