We have many upcomings and things to do, so read this news carefully. You'll want to mark your calendars for the AGM, Call for Entry for the Annual Member's Exhibit, and this weekend's MayDay Craft Weekend!
Message from Anne: "Staff Changes at the Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Craft Council is sad to announce that we are losing the services of Caroline Clarke who has been working on your behalf for more than 11 years. Although it will be impossible to replace her ever-ready smile and her capacity to help the Craft Council with a huge range of jobs, we have to try. Here's the call for applications - see the Craft Council website for the full job description. If you have questions, contact Anne at amanuel@craftcouncil.nl.ca
COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER The Craft Council needs a creative, flexible, and innovative individual to be responsible for the development and implementation of an annual communications plan, managing the Craft Council's website, and marketing the Council and its programs. Our choice candidate will have excellent communications, computer and professional social media networking skills. Graphic design skills an asset.
Apply to the Craft Council at info@craftcouncil.nl.ca by May 16, 2011. For details, download the full description here.
And from me... I just want to say thank you to everybody for being such a pleasure to work with over the years. This has been a difficult decision, but I will be working for another great organization, the Newfoundland Environmental Industries Association which will present new challenges. I will continue to volunteer and be an active member of this great place so I won't be a stranger.
I've learned a lot over my time here and have got to know some great folk. I will always treasure my memories here.
So have a good week get out for a walk!
Regards, Caroline Clarke Director of Communications

NEW! 2) Call for Exhibitors: 20/20 Annual Members' Exhibit, 2011 Deadline for Intent to Enter: May 20, 2011 Deadline for Entries: June 15, 2011 Show Dates: June 25 - September 4, 2011; Opening Reception: Saturday, June 25 from 2-4pm Celebrating creative vision and the 20-year birthday of the Craft Council Gallery and the Devon House Craft Centre. You are invited to submit works that celebrate your creative vision and the 20 year birthday of the Craft Council Gallery and Devon House Craft Centre. Works chosen for the 2011 Annual Members Exhibit will demonstrate a clear focus with a creative vision that pushes the boundaries of material, technique and concept. 20/20 usually refers to perfect eyesight and future vision. In this exhibition, we are asking you to look into your own future and try to visualize where you believe your own work is headed. What is your vision for what you want your work to become? Take this opportunity to make work that will take you one step closer to that vision. Don't be too literal with the theme - we don't expect to see eyeballs or charts with letters in ever decreasing font sizes. Rather we would expect to see something that we can recognize as yours, but which contains a new thought or a new element pushing the boundaries of your technique and materials - something that tells us that your work is continuing to change and grow, and reach new heights of excellence. Please notify the gallery of your "intent to enter" by May 20, 2011 gallery@craftcouncil.nl.ca or 753-2749 Please see Entry Form for further information

8) INTRD: Upcoming 2011 Product Review Meeting Dates and Staff Changes Product Review is a process where a craft producer's products are assessed by a committee to provide constructive feedback and to ensure that only high quality, market ready or near market ready products, are considered for the department's craft programs and services. If you plan to apply for funding under the Craft Industry Development Program, want to participate in the Crafts of Character Branding Program, or in the Wholesale Marketing Program (which includes the Provincial Wholesale Show, Atlantic Craft Trade Show and the Wholesale Buyers Guide), your products must first be assessed at the department's Product Review. If products have been already seen at Product Review, they do not need to be resubmitted unless the producer has a completely new product line (new medium, new techniques). Please note that the Product Review is separate from the Craft Council's Standards Jury and one process does not substitute for the other as they serve different purposes. The remaining Product Review meeting dates for 2011 are:- May 12, 2011
- September 22, 2011 - Note: This will be the last meeting for any new department booth guests for ACTS 2012 in Halifax if they have not already been through a Product Review.
- October 27, 2011
Other dates may be added if the volume of submissions warrants them. Please remember, product samples and the Product Review Application form must be received at the department's Confederation Building office two weeks prior to the meeting date. Visit the department website for more information on Product Review and to download the application form. http://www.intrd.gov.nl.ca/intrd/sectordev/provincialcrafts/productreview.html

She feels the recipients of these Awards are the light-bearers of the province's artistic community, so it's appropriate that they be recognized by the symbol of a lantern. Her pieces will be presented to the winners of the Artist of the Year, Arts in Education, Emerging Artist, Arts Achievement, and Patron of the Arts Awards.
