8) Job Opportunity with VANL!! Workshop Creator and Facilitator, VANL-CARFAC, St. John's (NL)
Closing Date: March 18, 2011 - Contractual Position starting in April and ending in December
Contract fee: $9600 ($1650 for the creation of each workshop, and $600 for each workshop delivery session). Travel, accommodations and per diem will also be provided.
The Workshop Creator and Facilitator (WCF) would be responsible for the creation and facilitation of two workshops: Designing an Artists' Website, and Getting the Word Out: Media and Publicity.
These activities would include:Research and development of content for each workshop topic, including a Powerpoint presentation, handout materials, and hands-on participation components;
- Working with the Executive Director and Program Coordinator to create materials needed for each workshop;
- Working with the VANL-CARFAC Board to ensure that each workshop meets the needs of the membership;
- Working from own office space independent of VANL-CARFAC;
Facilitation of both workshops, which will include travel to 5 locations across the province;
- Transportation of materials and equipment to each location as needed;
- Development of a feedback questionnaire to be collected from all participants;
- Collection and recording of workshop fees paid by participants;
- Creation of a comprehensive final report detailing the outcome of the workshops including attendance and participant feedback;
- The WCF is not responsible for booking any travel, accommodations or venues. They are also not responsible for publicity or design of materials.
The successful Candidate will:· Have knowledge of the workshop topics Designing an Artists' Website, and Getting the Word Out: Media and Publicity.
· Work independently from their own office space to create the content for these workshops;
· Maintain appropriate records;
· Have knowledge of VANL-CARFAC and its mandate and programs;
· Work with VANL-CARFAC's permanent staff and board of directors as required;
· Plan own timeline and adhere to this timeline;
· Demonstrate strong interpersonal, presentation, communication and organizational skills;
· Have experience teaching or facilitating related workshops or courses.

9) Call for Submissions: Garter Lane Galleries, Waterford (Ireland)

Garter Lane is looking for submissions for exhibitions in its visual arts programme for late 2011 and 2012. Artists in all disciplines and media are invited, inclusive of work suitable for viewing outside the gallery space.

10) Call for Submissions: Don Wright Print Scholarship 2011-2012, St. Michael's Printshop, St. John's (NL)

Each year, St. Michael's Printshop invites applications from emerging artists who wish to come to work at St. Michael's Printshop for one year under the Don Wright printmaking scholarship.
First awarded in 1991, the Don Wright Scholarship was established in recognition of visual artist Don Wright for the valuable contribution he made to the development of St. Michael's Printshop and the visual arts in Newfoundland and Labrador.
This program offers an emerging artist the opportunity to develop his/her ideas and technical skills in a professional printmaking facility. The scholar will have access to artists working in the studio as well as visiting artists from all over the world. One scholarship residency is offered each year.
In order to qualify, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:· Normally reside in Newfoundland and Labrador (or be willing to commit a reasonable amount of time to the scholarship)
· Be recent graduates of a Fine Arts program of study.
· Must demonstrate technical competence and innovation in the print medium.
Benefits of Scholarship· Waiving of shop rental fees for twelve months
· $500 honorarium
· Free enrollment in workshops
· A year end exhibition in St. Michael's gallery space
· 24 hour access to the printshop

DutiesThe Editor, in conjunction with the Editorial Committee is responsible for developing magazine content for features, reviews, profiles and artist pages. In conjunction with the Publisher, the Editor coordinates all aspects of publication development, and pre-press preparations including story selection, photography, and copy editing. The editor works closely with freelance writers, and is responsible for surveying and keeping abreast of significant development in the visual arts both locally and abroad.
Background requirementsThe successful applicant will have an undergraduate degree in the arts, or equivalent experience, excellent writing, editing and speaking skills. Knowledge and interest in the visual arts in Nova Scotia, Atlantic Canada and beyond is a requirement.
As the lead individual in the production of the magazine, s/he should have strong leadership and organizational skills and able to work independently. Knowledge of the design and related printing processes are an asset. The Magazine Editor reports to the Publisher.

The North Atlantic Forum, in partnership with
The Canadian Rural Revitalization Foundation (CRRF) and
The Small Island Cultures Research Initiative (SICRI)
This conference will examine the relationship between the arts, cultural heritage and regional development in islands and in rural and remote regions. It will bring together representatives from academia, government, the arts community, the cultural heritage community, the knowledge economy, the tourism industry, and organizations dealing with regional development. It will examine global trends in tourism, technology and demographics, and will feature global best practices in cultural tourism.
The themes of the conference are:· The role of culture, place and identity in regional development
· The role of cultural entrepreneurship in economic diversification
· Tangible and intangible heritage as engines of cultural tourism
· The arts and cultural heritage as tools for community building
To this end, organizers are inviting expressions of interest from persons and organizations who may wish to share their knowledge, expertise and experience with the attendees at this event.
This may take the form of:· Papers: Academic papers based on original research in any of the themes of the forum.
· Presentations: Non-academic presentations on how the arts and cultural heritage are being used to develop an area's tourism industry or its economy generally.
· Posters: Static visual presentations of any theme of the forum.
· Products or Performances: Presentations by artists and tradition bearers as to how they use their skills and expertise to develop a creative product or performance.
Special consideration will be given to expressions of interest which:· Combine presenters from various sectors (e.g., government/the arts/academia/ industry/etc.);
· Combine presenters from different countries or from different jurisdictions within the same country; or
· Demonstrate creativity in content, presentation, audience participation, etc.
Interested persons or groups are invited to submit a title and a short (max. 200 words) abstract of their paper, presentation, poster or creative product, and the names, affiliations and contact information of the presenters.
