RARE REFLECTIONS - THE ART OF WESLEY HARRIS

Hand wrought hollowware and pendants in precious metals and rare gems capture the fragile beauty of nature.

Goldsmith and jeweller Wesley Harris lovingly quotes from nature:  a family of dolphins swim around the curves of a bowl; undulating waves and tree foliage are implied in the forms of two other vessels; blue labradorite and diamonds capture the awe of Northern lights, while a pendant of rare purple labradorite and brilliant citrine imply a sunrise with three eagles taking wing.  Years in the making, this exhibition features a collection of major works that communicate a reverence for nature.

RARE REFLECTIONS - THE ART OF HILARY RICE

Through the manipulation of heat-treated synthetics and an experimental use of natural fibres, these textile works seek to evoke an awareness of the sacred.

Hilary Rice's textile art is characterized by a lovely lyricism and a harmonious use of surface embellishment. It is akin to the visual embodiment of a beautiful melody. Rice's inspiration comes from deep within. With images drawn from labyrinths and universal spirituality the work abstractly depicts "thin places", creating an oasis with the potential to transform viewers. These tapestry-like works incorporate unusual materials such as painted Tyvek, melted chiffons, handmade silk paper and various embossed metals.
