NEW! 1) Next Standards Meeting! Tuesday, December 7 at 9:30am.
If you are looking to become a Marketing Member you need to submit your products to the Craft Council Standards Committee. The next meeting has been tentatively set for December 7.  To find out more visit our website at http://www.craftcouncil.nl.ca/about/memberinfo.asp.

2) Important Info from The Shop!
A few reminders from the Craft Council Shop to those members participating in the Christmas Craft Fair

Marketing members MUST notify the Shop of any product they wish to remove from the shop 14 DAYS PRIOR to the St. John's / Corner Brook Fairs. Deadline for notification of removal will be October 22rd, 2010.

Important Note: We encourage all members to also maintain a full display in the shop during the Fair. The store still sees strong traffic during the Fair as there is heightened advertising and awareness for the Craft Council in the weeks preceding the event.

Packaging supplies are available to purchase at the Arts and Culture Centre during the 10 days of the Craft Fair. Shopping Bags - Bundles of 25 / $5, Tissue Paper / ½ Ream $10 Prices include tax. Cash sales only please!

*Please note change* There are no evening hours scheduled for post Fair drop off at the Craft Council Shop this year. Work will be received during regular shop hours Monday - Saturday 10-5, Sunday 1-5. There will be no one receiving work at the Arts and Culture Centre.

5) Call for Entry: Small Tapestry International 2: Passages (USA)

American Tapestry Alliance's juried, international exhibition of small-scale tapestries will open during 2011. The anticipated run of the show is from the spring through the fall, although the dates of the show may be extended further into the year. Artists are encouraged to consider the technical, metaphorical and/or conceptual implications of the theme of the show, Passages, as they develop work to submit. Innovation and experimentation within the technique of tapestry are welcomed. All works must be mounted.

NEW! 6) Call for Entry: Journal Quilt Challenge 2011 (UK)

Journal Quilt Challenge 2011: Int'l Quilt Competition for Innovative Quilts to Tour Britain
·Theme: FANTASY
·Open to quiltmakers worldwide for two Journal Quilts (or multiples of two), based on the theme 'Fantasy'.
·Important: This is a Journal Quilt competition so the quilts MUST measure 21cm x 29.7cm (A4) each, either portrait or landscape.

Each quilt must have a 3" hanging sleeve at the back. Work is to be of an original and innovative design, or if the design is based on something from a book / magazine etc. then this must be acknowledged. The quilt should constitute three layers of a textile sandwich. You must enter two quilts. One entry form is required for each pair of quilts you enter. You can enter as many times as you like. Do NOT join these two quilts together - they must be separate A4 sized pieces of work.

Completed entry forms to arrive by 30th November 2010 accompanied by a non returnable entry fee of £8.00 which will include return postage to UK addresses. (Overseas entries will be charged actual return postage). Labels will then be sent to all entrants and entries will be required to be sent to Grosvenor Shows Ltd. by 11th January 2011.

All entries will be judged and will then go on tour at the Spring Quilt Festivals 2011, and subject to space availability also at Quilts UK 2011.

NEW! 7) Call for Submission: Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council (NLAC) Awards (NL)
Proposal Deadline:

Deadline for Delivery of Artwork: Friday, April 15, 2011

The Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council (NLAC) invites visual artists and fine crafts persons that are resident in Newfoundland and Labrador to submit proposals for five pieces of artwork. These artworks will be presented to award recipients, in select categories, at the 26th NLAC Arts Awards Gala.

Specifications: Five pieces of existing or newly-created artwork
Budget: $2,500 + HST inclusive for five works (includes artist fees, materials, framing, shipping and insurance.)
Requirements: A proposal including: A detailed project description; An updated resume; Relevant support material i.e. images (sketches, slides, photos, jpgs, etc.) maximum 20; Original artworks cannot be accepted as support material.

The NLAC is not responsible for damage to or loss of any submitted support material.

NEW! 8) Craft Industry Development Program (CIDP): 2011 Product Review Dates (NL)

The 2011 meeting dates for Product Review have been finalized.

If you plan to apply to the Craft Industry Development Program (CIDP), want to participate in INTRD's Wholesale Marketing Program (Provincial Wholesale Show, ACTS and the Wholesale Buyers Guide), or want to apply for the Crafts of Character Branding Program, you first need to have your products assessed at INTRD's Product Review. If your products have been already seen at Product Review, you do not need to resubmit unless asked to do so, or unless you have a completely new product line (new medium, new techniques).

Please note that Product review is a separate process from the Craft Council's jury process and one does not substitute for the other as they serve different purposes.

The Product Review dates for 2011 are:

Note: This will be the last PR date for new producers/products wanting to list in the 2011 Wholesale Buyers Guide and haven't been to PR.

February 17, 2011
Note: This will be the last PR date for new producers/products wanting to participate in the 2011 Buyers Marketplace - Provincial Craft Wholesale Show.

Note: This will be the last PR date for any new INTRD booth guests for ACTS 2012 if they haven't already been through PR.

9) Call for Exhibitors: Town of Torbay (NL)

Location: Kinsmen Community Centre, Torbay

The Town of Torbay will be holding at Christmas Market and is looking for exhibitors.  The cost for a table is $25 and will be the only Christmas market in the area.  The Town is also planning other Christmas activities that weekend, including a parade and a "Breakfast with Santa".

There is only space for 15 vendors - so call today!

10) Call for Entry: Stitches Across Time, Fibre Arts Show 2011 (NL)

The Dufferin County Museum and Archives (DCMA) in partnership with local artists, volunteers and sponsors are pleased to be presenting a major juried exhibition of contemporary fibre art pieces, shown together with historic pieces from the Museum's extensive textile collection. Several items from the Museum's collection have been chosen for their design, aesthetic and historical significance and these are the artifacts that we are asking artists from across Canada to interpret and look to for inspiration as they create contemporary fibre art pieces for show and sale in this beautiful and unique exhibition to be launched in the Spring of 2011.

Stitches across Time Juried Textile Show is a national show and entries from across Canada will be accepted.

11) Teaching Opportunities: A Good Yarn, St. John's (NL)

A Good Yarn, a knitting supply store, is looking for instructors for any type of knitting (except beginner) classes (ie: lace, mitten, fair isle, finishing techniques, etc.), crochet, spinning (with a drop spindle), and felting. Bernard will also discuss the Atlantic Craft Trade Show (ACTS), a wholesale craft trade show based in Halifax, NS which takes place every February. ACTS is a wholesale only trade show for retailers buying products for their shops. Bernard will also present ideas for new products and market development of your craft. Mr. Burton will also be available after the session for individual one-on-one meetings to discuss any questions you may have or provide ideas and resources for craft related concerns. This will be an informative session of interest to everyone in the craft industry.
