TOMORROW! The Christmas Craft Fair is HERE! Dates: The Christmas Craft Fair (formerly Fine Craft & Design Fair): November 11-14 & November 18 - 21, 2010
All are welcome to come by say "hi", do some Christmas shopping, or just hang with your peeps and see what they are up to. A full list of exhibitors is on-line, as well as other info about the Fairs at http://www.craftcouncil.nl.ca/fair/default.asp.
Help us out by putting a link on your website, posting our link on Facebook, or just bring a friend along with you. Craft Council Staff will be at the Fairs and are looking forward to seeing our community out in full force.

2) Important Info from The Shop! A few reminders from the Craft Council Shop to those members participating in the Christmas Craft Fair
Marketing members MUST notify the Shop of any product they wish to remove from the shop 14 DAYS PRIOR to the St. John's / Corner Brook Fairs. Deadline for notification of removal will be October 22rd, 2010.
Important Note: We encourage all members to also maintain a full display in the shop during the Fair. The store still sees strong traffic during the Fair as there is heightened advertising and awareness for the Craft Council in the weeks preceding the event.
Packaging supplies are available to purchase at the Arts and Culture Centre during the 10 days of the Craft Fair. Shopping Bags - Bundles of 25 / $5, Tissue Paper / ˝ Ream $10 Prices include tax. Cash sales only please!
*Please note change* There are no evening hours scheduled for post Fair drop off at the Craft Council Shop this year. Work will be received during regular shop hours Monday - Saturday 10-5, Sunday 1-5. There will be no one receiving work at the Arts and Culture Centre.

NEW! 5) Call for Exhibitors: Town of Torbay (NL) Date: Sunday, December 5, 2010 from 9:30am-3:30pm Location: Kinsmen Community Centre, Torbay The Town of Torbay will be holding at Christmas Market and is looking for exhibitors. The cost for a table is $25 and will be the only Christmas market in the area. The Town is also planning other Christmas activities that weekend, including a parade and a "Breakfast with Santa". NEW! 6) Call for Entry: Prom Show, Prince of Wales Collegiate, St. John's (NL) Date: November 21, 2010 from 11am - 5pm
The Enterprise Class of PWC will be hosting a Prom Show in our gym. This is a fabulous opportunity for you to display your products and services to thousands of soon to be graduating Grade 12 students from high schools throughout the Avalon Region.
There will be door prizes, live entertainment, runway fashion shows and other surprises. This is an event you will not want to miss!
Please fill out your information on this form so that we can save a booth for you as soon as possible. Booths are 8' by 10' with six foot tables and drapery in the back and sides (the same setup as the recent Wedding Show). The cost for each booth is $200. If you are interested in a booth at our Prom Show then simply fill out the form and return it to us via regular mail, email, or fax. Space is very limited so be sure to book your booth early to avoid disappointment.

The Dufferin County Museum and Archives (DCMA) in partnership with local artists, volunteers and sponsors are pleased to be presenting a major juried exhibition of contemporary fibre art pieces, shown together with historic pieces from the Museum's extensive textile collection. Several items from the Museum's collection have been chosen for their design, aesthetic and historical significance and these are the artifacts that we are asking artists from across Canada to interpret and look to for inspiration as they create contemporary fibre art pieces for show and sale in this beautiful and unique exhibition to be launched in the Spring of 2011.

9) New Young Entrepreneurs and Innovators Program (YEIP) Launched, (NL) Deadline: on-going
On Friday, October 29th, INTRD launched its new Young Entrepreneurs and Innovators Program (YEIP) to help advance entrepreneurship and innovation among youth throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
The program will support eligible activities as outlined in the attached factsheet, which will be available to clients on our departmental website.
Eligible applicants include Individuals up to age 35, youth-led ventures and not-for profit organizations with youth-oriented projects to advance entrepreneurship and/or innovation.

This program is an initiative of the Youth Retention and Attraction Strategy and is delivered by INTRD in partnership with the CBDCs and the Entrepreneurs Forum.
10) Teaching Opportunities: A Good Yarn, St. John's (NL) Deadline: on-going
A Good Yarn, a knitting supply store, is looking for instructors for any type of knitting (except beginner) classes (ie: lace, mitten, fair isle, finishing techniques, etc.), crochet, spinning (with a drop spindle), and felting. They are open to anything from a one day workshop, to workshops that spread over several weeks. Classes are to start after Christmas, so contact them now if you are interested to be included in programming.

The Department of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development is pleased to sponsor a special presentation during this year's West Coast Craft Fair. Join us for a complimentary breakfast and to hear Bernard Burton speak on the trends, opportunities and issues in the craft sector.
What will you hear?
Craft Trends & New Ideas... Bernard Burton, Executive Director with Craft Alliance ~ Alliance métiers d'arts, will present a session on current trends and issues in the craft sector across North America. The presentation will include an overview of Craft Alliance, a new organization formed in the last 2 years. Bernard will also discuss the Atlantic Craft Trade Show (ACTS), a wholesale craft trade show based in Halifax, NS which takes place every February. ACTS is a wholesale only trade show for retailers buying products for their shops. Bernard will also present ideas for new products and market development of your craft. Mr. Burton will also be available after the session for individual one-on-one meetings to discuss any questions you may have or provide ideas and resources for craft related concerns. This will be an informative session of interest to everyone in the craft industry.

12) Workshop: Selling to the Public Sector, Holiday Inn, St. John's (NL) Date: Monday, November 15, 2010 from 1 - 4:30pm Cost: FREE with registration - deadline November 5, 2010
The Department of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development, in cooperation with the St. John's Board of Trade, and the Newfoundland and Labrador Organization of Women Entrepreneurs, will be hosting the Selling to the Public Sector - Reverse Trade Show at the Holiday Inn, St. John's. The range of products and services required by the provincial government, the federal government, and other public sector entities is vast - are you missing out on opportunities to sell to this sector?
What will you learn at the show?
1) How to sell your products or services to the provincial government, the Government of Canada, and provincial public sector entities such as municipalities, academic institutions, school boards and hospitals - learn what is purchased and how it is purchased
2) What programs and services are available to assist Newfoundland and Labrador firms in growing their business.

15) Annual General Meeting, Association of Cultural Industries (ACI), LSPU Hall, St. John's (NL) The Association of Cultural Industries of Newfoundland and Labrador reminds all members that its Annual General Meeting will take place on Saturday November 13, 2010 in St. John's.

All members, associate members and voting, are welcome for the morning session. If you are a member of the Craft Council, DanceNL, MusicNL, VANL-CARFAC, or WANL, you are automatically an Associate Member of ACI.

We will also:- Update members on advocacy and policy initiatives and issues from the past year (Status of the Artist Legislation, the update of the Cultural Blueprint, etc)
- Present new research and policy documents (culture sector HR study, ACI Communications Plan, ACI Conflict of Interest Policy, ACI Financial Policy, etc)
- Update and take questions on the successes and challenges of the first Culture Days festival
- Both Associate Members (ie, those who have not paid membership dues to ACI directly, but are associated with ACI through their paid membership to provincial service sector organizations, including Craft Council, MusicNL, VANL-CARFAC, and WANL) and Full Voting Members (ie, those individuals and organizations who have paid direct membership fees to ACI and are therefore allowed to attend the AGM business meeting and vote on policy changes and for board members) are invited to the conference portion of the day (from 10am to 1pm).
After lunch, the Full Voting Members will adjourn to conduct the ACI AGM Business Meeting.
If you are not a current ACI Full Voting Member, but would like to attend the business meeting portion of the day, there will be opportunity to register and pay dues on site on Nov 13.

ACI is a pan-provincial, pan-cultural not-for-profit organization serving as a sector council, unified voice, advocate, and research body working on behalf of professional artists and arts organizations in Newfoundland Labrador. ACI is continually working to provide a nexus for communications between artists and arts organizations, all levels of government, and the public.
In the morning session, our keynote address will be from Ken Simmons, Arts Editor at the Telegram newspaper, who will speak and take questions on how to pitch your culture/arts event or story to journalists for coverage.
