8) Call to Artists: Traver Gallery in conjunction with 2011 SNAG, Seattle (US)
Deadline: October 17, 2010 Entry Fee: $35
Dual, the private life of sculpture Dual is a survey of artists creating sculptures that both stand alone as beautiful objects and also interact with the body in some way.
Art jewelry has long been pushing the boundaries of body adornment through wearable sculpture and in some cases objects that are made for the body but not realistically wearable. As sculpture takes a prominent role in art jewelry and the primary focus shifts from body adornment to conceptual objects that may or may not directly relate to the body, the result is often art with a double life. Dual seeks to highlight individual works that exist successfully in both realms - as sculpture and as an object that relates to the body or can interact with the body. This theme is open to interpretation. Submissions for this exhibit are not limited to jewelry or small scale objects but open to any sculpture that lives a dual life.
This exhibit will take place at Traver Gallery in conjunction with the 2011 SNAG (Society of North America Goldsmiths) conference held in Seattle, Washington May 26-29, 2011. Juried by Catherine Grisez
Eligibility: Open to all artists 18 and older working in any media.

Grants, Awards, and Funding
10) Call for Nominations: Atlantic Canada Craft Awards of Excellence Deadline: October 31, 2010
The Atlantic Canada Craft Awards of Excellence will once again be handed out in Halifax in February 2011, at a ceremony which coincides with the Atlantic Craft Trade Show.
Awards are given in four categories - Excellence in Product Design, Outstanding Exporter, Outstanding Retailer and Industry Leader/Supporter. These awards are the primary form of recognition in Atlantic Canada for leadership and excellence of professional craft and giftware producers and of those who are strong supporters of the craft industry. Through their demonstrated dedication and commitment, recipients are those who have achieved prominence in the community and credibility in the industry.
Anyone can nominate a craftsperson or retailer (for the retailer award). Please take a few moments and think about someone you know who has made an outstanding contribution to the craft industry in Atlantic Canada, and nominate them for one of this year's awards. The nomination forms are here.
Keep in mind that the deadline for receiving the nomination forms is October 31st, however, the complete nomination packages do not have to be submitted until November 30th.
For many years now most of our nominations have been coming from the provincial crafts councils and some government departments - which we appreciate immensely! It would be great to receive more nominations from industry partners, craftspeople and former award winners, in our communities.
