Chaverware November 2010 newsletter
Greetings!
During these few months a lot has happened here at Chaverware. We welcomed a new employee to our support team, John Llewellyn. John spent many years as a support technician at Merrill Corporation in Manhattan and the last few years with smaller Long Island businesses. In the 6 weeks since he has joined us, he has become a real part of the team and we're sure you will all enjoy your interactions with him, and the return to a shorter wait time as a result!
We've also released ChaverWeb 2.1 and Chaverware 5.4. Please read below for details.

Chaverware 5.4
Chaverware 5.4 is now available from the Tools menu, Check for Updates. However, due to changes by our web host, if you are running any version prior to 5.4.29 will need a special tool to get the next hotfix or update. Please download and install the Chaverware Update utility. You will then need to run this rather than using Chaverware to get the update. All versions after 5.4.29 will be able to download updates without this utility. Alternatively, you can request support and our staff will upload it to you.
For those paying close attention, there was no version 5.3. This was an internal release for testing purposes and was not release to any customer.
New features:
- Web sync now includes Yahrzeits information.
- Web sync now uploads billing history.
- Web sync now uploads payment history.
- Categories can now be flagged as web events and synchronized.Added option to enable uploading of financial history in web setup screen.
- Added support for Pecahtree 2011 editions Support for versions prior to 2007 has been discontinued. If you are running Peachtree 2006 or earlier DO NOT upgrade to Chaverware 5.4, you will no longer be able to transfer your information to Peachtree without also upgrading Peachtree.
- Seating locations and events can now be sent to Excel.
- Added prompt when sending to emails to include a copy to the member's work email.
- The program now remembers a user's send choice (To,cc,bcc) when sending emails and defaults to it.
- Category purpose is now being uploaded during web sync of donation categories.
- Made send to category smarter when filtered for classes.
Fixed Issues:
- Fixed problem with automatic mailing address updates.
- Fixed problem when trying to delete batches with asterisks.
- Fixed problem that would not let you switch family tabs if you had a past credit card expiration date.
- Deleting a family that is being synced to the web is no longer permitted until they are removed.
- Fixed error when trying to edit a query layout after viewing the results then going to another screen.
- Fixed problem that would use today's date as the default adjustment date on a future invoice.

ChaverWeb 2.1
ChaverWeb 2.1 has been "posted". In the web world, when we "post" a new version, it's feature set is immediately available to all of the users of that system. There is no "updating" necessary by each client, just start using the feature set. In the case of ChaverWeb however, there are often times that you will need an update of your Chaverware to talk to the new version of ChaverWeb. (Are you confused yet?)
If you are not yet a ChaverWeb user and want to learn more, please send an email to schedule a time to review. The price for the ChaverWeb is just $1/family member unit/year. With increased donations to your Synagogue, reduced office time spent on event registrations and payments, you will quickly see a very good return on investment!
New Features:
- Ability for your members to view and edit their Yahrzeit observances (Released as part of ChaverWeb 2.0)
- Ability for your members to view their "account" and make credit card payments against it. (Released as part of ChaverWeb 2.0)
- Ability for your members to register for and pay for events.
- Added admin option to display open invoices only
- Added admin option to hide invoices total
- Added admin option to hide payments total
- Added admin option to limit invoices displayed to a specific timespan
- Added admin option to limit payments displayed to a specific timespan
Fixed Issues:
- Changed text from "Add a Member" to "Add an Individual"
- An event's minimum age can now be 0 (though can still be left blank if you don't want to specify an age)
- Statistics' button to export a list of unlogged families now works
- In Donate, if there is no Bill Me payment option, State validation now goes away once a State is entered
- If a congregant is already signed up for the only event, selecting Event Sign Up now goes to the MyEvents screen

#7 Create a list for
URJ or USCJ
Do you have to submit an electronic membership list to the URJ or USCJ?
Under the Tools, Utilities menu, there is an option for "Export membership list to USCJ or URJ".
This will walk you through the process to create a file for you to email to the URJ/USCJ. The respective file is designed according to the specifications that the URJ/USCJ requires.
