Tips for Budgeting - and beyond
Brought to you by Kesef Accounting Service, LLC.
the Outsourced bookkeeping Solution for Synagogues.

Ahh..... Spring, the time for flowers, shedding winter coats and yes -  budgets.  It seems that every year there are budget pressures, but this year seems worse than most.  No one wants to raise fees or cut back services.  So what's a budget committee to do?  We have assembled some ideas to consider during your budgeting process as well as meeting that budget once it's been passed by your congregation.

Take advantage of free money that the Federal government has given you under the Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment (Hire) Act.  If you have hired someone off the unemployment rolls after February 3, 2010 and before January 1, 2011, the government will allow you to save the FICA taxes on that employee.  That's 6.2% for being a good American.

Overtime - Take a look at your payroll records for last year.  Did you incur overtime?  Could it have been prevented?  Was there an alternative to the overtime?  After you finish analyzing overtime, put polocies in place policies that tighten up this area by eliminating these excess payroll costs.

TOP TEN REASONS WHY CAMPAIGNS SUCCEED
brought to you by David Mersky

Despite the volatility of the stock market in recent weeks, the number of congregation that are contemplating new capital and endowment campaigns is increasing if our phone and email inbox is any indicator.  If you are among the increasing number of congregations that are planning such a major, once-in-a-generation endeavor, here are our top ten reasons-with apologies to David Letterman-to assure the success of your efforts.

10. Your campaign has a definite timetable: Mini-goals are crucial to keeping the campaign running according to schedule. If you set a goal such as "Raise $500,000 in the first two months," you will be able to stick to your schedule much more easily than if you set only a goal such as "Raise $1 million no matter how long it takes." Set challenges for yourself and your solicitors and reward solicitors when certain goals are achieved. Don't save the praise until the end of the campaign.

9. Your campaign has been planned out from start to finish: Campaigns generally begin with a quiet phase and end with a celebration of achieving the campaign goal. You must, as we always say, begin with the end in mind. Work backwards from your celebratory event or groundbreaking and create a blueprint for campaign success and remember:
Proper Planning Promotes Possible Positive Performance.

#5 "Send to" email and Constant Contact®

Do you want to send bulk email to your congregation or to a subset of your congregation?

With Chaverware you have the following choices:

You can send email from:
   - An individual's record
   - A category
   - From the results of a Query.

Simply select the records you wish to email and click on "Send to" and then choose "Email". This will generate an email message in your default email program on your computer. You'll be able to select whether to have the addresses in the "To", "CC", or "BCC" areas.

Some Internet Providers limit how many emails you can send at once. To help you work around those limitations we provide integration with Constant Contact®. Constant Contact not only allows you to create attractive HTML emails (Like these Newsletters), but also has no limit on how many people you can send to in one email.  Chaverware can populate your lists in Constant Contact through an external utility (soon to be built into Chaverware). This allows you to upload any category's names to a particular list in Constant Contact. If you'd like to learn more about Constant Contact, or create an account, just CLICK HERE
