Greetings!
Have you heard the saying "practice what you preach"? I'm going to admit to you that I've broken my own cardinal rule and have taken on way more than I should over the last couple of months.  I have not been practicing what I preach and have learned my lesson.

Balance in your life is so important!  When the balance is off so is everything else (at least for me)...I'm back on track with knowing when enough is enough and can now definitely back up what I preach!  :)

How's your life/work balance?  I'd like to hear and encourage you to drop me a note!

Sincerely,

-Jessica, Bringer of Order

It's Still Just Stuff...Declutter Your Life Series

man and mail

Let's review the ground rules from last month again:

1.  Everything in your life should have value, either because it's functional or beautiful or just because you love it.  Use it, Love it, or Lose it!  What would you grab if your house was on fire?

2.  Just as you need a home, so does your stuff.  Setting things down on any old flat surface creates piles and clutter build-up.  You will never lose anything again if you give an item a home and make sure it gets returned there very day.

3.  Avoid multitasking.  You're trying to simplify your life, so simplify your approach to getting organized.  Trying to do too many things at once leaves you with many unfinished projects.

Okay, now that we know the ground rules, let's begin...

The PILE of Mail:
Can you try do a presort of the mail as you walk back  from the mailbox?  Maybe by the time you hit the door you can have the junk ready to drop in the trash can.  If you don't have time to fully sort through the mail, place it in the container you have handy for this purpose.  Oops, don't have such a container?  No wonder there are so many piles around the house.
  • Junk the Junk.  Immediately toss the junk mail (flyers, circulars, credit card offers, envelopes, etc).
  • Corral the Catalogs. Promise yourself that you will only keep the current month catalog...put the new one in place and toss the old.  Remove yourself from the lists of catalogs you received, but never wanted.
  • Bills.  Open all bills and toss everything but the statement and return envelope (the return envelope can go too if you do online billpaying).  You don't need that other junk taking up valuable space and creating piles.
  • Set-Up A System.  Make sure you pick one place in the home to store and handle the mail.  Get yourself a container and label it accordingly.  Make sure the mail makes it way here each and every day.  You will never loose an item again because it will always be in the same place.
Stay tuned for the topic Email next month...
