Simply Simplified-Simple Guide to Weeding Out Your Closet!

 Simplify

Fall is here and it's the perfect time to get your closet organized for the new season. But how do you decide what to keep and what to toss?

Here is a simple guide:

"Well, someday it will fit again...." Get it out of your closet and donate it so that someone who DOES fit into it can wear it. Even if you're trying to lose or gain a few pounds, it's not worth keeping. Live in the 'now', and once you reach your goal, reward yourself with a new outfit to flatter your new figure.

I Love It , I Love It Not.  This is a no-brainer. If you don't love it then get rid of it today.

Can't Shout It Out!  It's stained. If you really like the garment, but can't wear it because it's stained, spend some time this week getting the stain out. If you can't get the stain out, then bite the bullet and say bye-bye to this piece of clothing.

Sew-Sew.  If it's torn, a hem needs to be sewn or it needs to be altered; either repair it yourself, have it repaired or get rid of it if the price of the repair is not worth it. Make a choice today and stop allowing this damaged item to take up precious space in your closet.

"But I might wear it again someday..."  It's a wear-once outfit. If you have a prom dress, tuxedo or other wear-once item in your closet, you have an emotional decision to make. If you can't bear to part with it because it brings back happy memories, then you may have to just keep it. However, if you have photographs of yourself in the wear-once outfit and that's good enough for you, consider parting with the item.

Trends Aren't Always Timeless.  It could maybe, possibly come back into fashion, but most likely not. This is a bad reason to keep an outfit. It could take years before clothes come back in fashion and wouldn't you rather buy a new outfit anyway?

Make a Match.  Perhaps you have a shirt that you love, but can't seem to find pants to match it or vice versa. Make it a point to go shopping this weekend in search of that perfect match. Remember, neutral colors such as black, brown, beige and gray go well with most other colors. You might even want to bring the piece you have to the store with you and have a sales clerk help you find a good match. You'll be thrilled that you can finally wear that shirt that's been sitting in your closet!

"Whoa.  I just realized that my follow up folder is down to 6 things!  That's amazing!  It was crazy full for a long time.  AND my newsletter is queued up to send tomorrow, and I have most of the next one written.

I instituted a new phase in my daily routine today called "unfinished business".

I go around the house, the same way I do picking up clutter, but this is to finish things I've started.  Wow did it feel good.
Thank you Jessica."
