Spring cleaning season has come and gone. Did you get everything done that you had planned or were you too busy to de-clutter your life?
You call a plumber to fix your leaks, you take your a car to a mechanic, you wouldn't dare cut your own hair...why not add a professional organizer to your list of services?
Let's face it, most people have some level of disorganization in their lives. We all lead busy lives with many responsibilities and commitments, which eventually leave those daily chores to pile up and procrastination to set in. How often have you found yourself in front of your closest, looking for an item that you own, only to waste time and feel frustrated because you can't find it? Or when unpacking your groceries you realize you bought duplicates of an item and forgot what you were supposed to buy. Ever been at the office and you can't find that quote, phone number or file someone's waiting for? Whether it's your home or office, a disorganized environment is a drain on your time and resources and will leaving you feeling just plain overwhelmed.

I've tried doing the things you've suggested, but still can't get organized by myself. How do I know when it's time to ask for help?

Dear Danielle,
It sounds like now may be the time to ask for help. If you've tried multiple times to get organized, but still feel you haven't accomplished anything a little bit of help will get you there quickly. An organizing consultant or professional organizer will help you realize that organizing is more than just cleaning out. If you don't understand why you accumulate, it will come back again. They will create a lasting change in your environment and organizational habits. Some of the requirements for success will be to learn practical, useful, and concrete information. Every organizing system must be unique to the individual(s) using it because if it's not simple it will not work. Most organizers can provide very easy-to-understand organizing techniques that you can implement yourself. This includes how to buy and use containers, shelving, racks, setting up proven and effective methods for handling paper, workload, and daily activities.
During an initial consultation an organizer will look at your environment and ask questions about your daily activities. Make sure that you don't clean up prior to the visit because this will not allow the organizer to see how things are on a day to day basis. Also, make sure to be completely honest in your answers so that the proper organizing system can be implemented for you.
You'll be amazed at what even a few hours with a organizing consultant or professional organizer can do for you and your environment. Chances are you will learn the basics and then can apply them, on your own, to the rest of your home or office.
