Under the supervision of an academic director, participants get an insight into India's Urban Healthcare system. This rotation combines outpatient clinics (OPD), hospital visits, patient ward rounds and observing surgeries. Participants get to understand the entire spectrum of infectious diseases and ailments along with visits to HIV/AIDS centers, Tuberculosis (TB) clinics and Leprosy centers.
2. Rural and Public Health Rotation:
Based in idyllic surroundings of rural India this program provides an overview into the challenges and approaches to healthcare issues faced by a majority of India's rural population. Participants accompany a mobile health van into remote areas which have little or no access to primary healthcare, attend outpatient clinics (OPD) with local physicians, observe surgeries and also visit local HIV/AIDS outreach centers, Tuberculosis (TB) clinics. Optional visits to a nearby Leprosy affected peoples' community can also be organized as a part of this program.
3. Introduction to Traditional Medicine:
The Introduction to Traditional Medicine program explores ancient Indian methods for healing and maintaining good health like yoga, meditation, drugless treatments through alteration of diet and lifestyle, and incorporating mind and body systems. Students are immersed in natural surroundings and follow routines set by traditional practitioners to ensure healthy lifestyles and alleviate chronic problems like asthma, hypertension, diabetes and migraine.
Participants shadow doctors at outpatient clinics (OPD) and also get to understand diagnostic/treatment methods used in traditional medicine streams such as Ayurveda.
