On March 4, 2009 KCCD in partnership with LA County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, CRA Los Angeles, and The Council of Korean Churches in So. California hosted the 2009 Economic Development Bus Tour. Together over 56 participants packed the bus including pastors from 16 of the largest Korean mega-churches, Korean Consul General of Los Angeles, Jae-Soo Kim and Brenda Lamothe from the Mayor's Office.
The 2009 Economic Development Bus Tour turned out to be a success with the pastors visiting successful ministries involved in economic development work. Tour stops included visits to West Angeles CDC Offices, Chesterfield Square Shopping Center, Crenshaw Christian Center Faithdome & Vermont Village CDC, and the FAME Renaissance Center.
KCCD President, Hyepin Im, stated,"KCCD is pleased to have co-hosted this historic economic development bus tour. They say seeing is believing. From the postive response and interest from the Korean American pastors, I am excited about the economic development projects and public private partnerships that may come forth in the future with Korean American churches. I also want to thank Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas for his vision and leadership in initiating this tour. Also, big thanks to Michelle Banks-Ordone of CRA Los Angeles and their team for their sponsorship and Pastor Peter Han of the Council of Korean Churches in So. California for their support." LA County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas commenting on the possibility of future collaborative partnerships stated, "I'm ecstatic about the Korean Consul General (Jae-Soo Kim) being here today and the head of respective Korean denominations, the large and the small being in attendance as well as the media...When we work together there could very well be Korean and African congregations working together on community development projects."
President and CEO, of KCCD Hyepin Im commented, "KCCD is committed to helping Korean American churches reach its full potential and expand its impact on the community by partnering with the greater community. I believe First AME and other sites we visited demonstrate what is possible. As an example, First AME is able to leverage its $3 million offering with additional $9 million from outside sources to implement various services including senior housing. "
