This family-friendly community event will provide a forum for industry professionals and government agencies to gain access and communicate invaluable information to Korean Americans about home ownership. The fair will include two plenary sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, about specific topics (e.g. credit, predatory lending, down payment assistance, refinancing, home improvements, foreclosure, reverse mortgage, etc.) as well as providing opportunities for attendees to visit exhibit booths to get resource materials, receive credit checks, and speak to bank, mortgage, nonprofit, and government representatives.

Our previous five homeownership fairs have been very successful with a combined attendance of over 2,500 and excellent reviews from both participating agencies and attendees. In addition to attendees learning about the home buying process, the sponsors and exhibitors had an opportunity to learn about the Korean-American community and broadened their marketing efforts. The State of the County Report by United Way of Greater Los Angeles reports that only 37.3 percent of the Korean population owns a home, more than 10 percent below the 48.2 percent overall home ownership rate in Los Angeles County. However, a free credit check service at the Fair revealed that 95% of the FICO credit scores of participants were over 750, a very high score that is seldom reported. At the fair, many attendees completed loan applications on site. As with previous fairs, we plan to garner a broad base of support from the government, church, nonprofit, and private sectors. We will also conduct a massive outreach campaign through print media, television, and radio to publicize the event.
