Imagine this:      Do what your heart wants to do.

I recently taught a workshop that I call "tracing paper transfer"
.  I learned this process about twenty years ago from Lyle Matoush, who taught printmaking at Southern Oregon University.
The class was a great success (Above wall of images). It is a wonderful process for people who love to draw and experiment with monoprinting techniques too.

Here is the basic process:

Below I am working on the drawing using Conte drawing pencils on regular tracing paper. I used a photo of myself and my friend Mare and pictures of birds for the image of "Bird Girls". The trick is to build up the layers of color using the Conte pencils.

When the drawing is complete the next step is to place the drawing upside down in transparent oil based ink. Below you can see Bird Girls and other drawings placed upside down in the ink.

After sitting in the transparent ink for about 30 minutes the tracing paper drawing is placed image side up on a prepared and inked Plexiglas plate (Below) ready to print with an etching press.

Here is "Bird Girls" printed on Arches Cover paper and finished with some touch up drawing.

Let me know if any of you are interested in doing this technique in a future monoprintmaking workshop.
Until next time,

Denise
