Hi everyone, You may have noticed that I didn't send out a newsletter last month. Maybe I should call my notes to you "Mostly Monthly Musings". I have been very busy in the studio getting ready for an exhibit of new work at Hanson Howard Gallery here in Ashland Oregon. The opening is September 5th. I hope you can make it.
This week I gave a presentation to about 70 people at Jean Houston's Social Artistry Intensive. There were participants from all over the country and international participants too. I talked about my art process and the importance of intention and creativity. I discussed many things about my knowings as a teacher and artist. I was nervous and scared about talking to a large group which is why I wanted to do it. I think it's important to get out of my comfort zone whenever I can because it really wakes me up and keeps me engaged with my life. It feels so right to teach what I know. I have been a quiet listener for most of my life. It has always been hard to articulate my feelings. I could paint it and draw it but words were always difficult for me until the last few years. It has taken me all my life to realize that what I have to say is worth saying. I am grateful to Jean Houston and my work with Peggy Rubin as well as all my students and friends who have helped me clarify and articulate what I know about life, art, and the creative process.

monoprint with oils 16 X 20 Costello and the fire sticksCostello was hurrying home from a long cold day gathering fire sticks when something curious caught his eye. He stopped short and stood very still not moving a muscle. He wasn't sure what he had seen. His determination to wait and see was very strong. But whatever it was that caught his attention also stopped short at the very same moment and was being very still and was determined not to be seen by Costello. The intent to be quiet and still was so strong between everyone involved that the air began to quiver and vibrate with kinetic energy causing the fire sticks to spontaneously ignite, which then caused quite a commotion.
